Parents of Bused Students
It is imperative that you contact Liz Childs via phone (215-947-4086) or e-mail (Liz.Childs@bacs-gc.org) if you want your child to ride the bus following the Christmas Program.  If Liz does not hear from you she will assume that you plan to pick up your child(ren) and will cancel the bus.
No Shuttle Provided this Year
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but due to reduced staffing, and limited use, BACS will not be able to provide shuttle service for the Christmas Program this year.
Dress Code for Christmas Program
For the Christmas Program, formal event wear is required.  As a reminder, here is a brief description of formal event wear, including changes that were made last summer.
  • For both boys and girls, a white button-up, oxford-style shirt is required. (Girls may wear a tailored blouse.)  No polo shirts.
  • Boys are expected to wear a BACS plaid tie.  Girls may wear one.
  • (For your convenience, Mrs. Childs has some ties for sale for $9.00 each.)
  • Navy OR Khaki pants.  Skirts/jumpers must be navy, khaki, or BACS plaid.
  • Boys and girls must tuck in their shirts.
  • A belt must be worn if garment has belt loops

Optional: students are permitted but not required to wear a navy blue blazer, or a red or navy sweater/fleece or vest.

Toys for Tots
BACS is participating in the Marine Foundation Toys-for-Tots program.  You are invited to bring a gift to contribute to the BACS collection at any time right up until the Christmas Program on Dec. 16.  New toys (no gift wrap please) will be gratefully received near the main entrance of the school.  On the day of the program, gifts may be deposited on a table in the Society Building.  We are very grateful to the local crew of retired marines and volunteers who continue to provide man (and woman)-power for this program.
 Resilience Education
Kirsten will begin teaching resilience skills to 7th grade boys and girls right after the Christmas Break, and then will teach the same course to 8th grade boys and girls in the spring. This course will teach students skills of self-awareness and mental agility to help them navigate the setbacks that are a regular part of life. For more information about the focus of this course, see Kirsten's article on pp.18-25 of the recent Theta Alpha Journal on resilience in education (link to Theta Alpha Journal). Also, please feel free to contact Kirsten with questions (Kirsten.cronlund@bacs-gc.org, 215-947-4086, ext. 214).
 Honoring the Arts
Are you looking forward with eager anticipation to hearing students sing at our Christmas Program?  I know I can't wait to hear their mellifluous voices floating through the crowd.  The monthly focus of our School Theme: Serve the Lord with All Your Heart is the arts.  When you pause to look around our school, I think you will agree that the arts are honored each month.

Our rich tradition of honoring the arts means that opportunities abound for students to act, paint, create, play, and sing.   We read in the Heavenly Doctrines that "Young children learn to think by means of the senses, and to be affected by objects that are in accord with the things that are pleasing to the senses (AE 543:2)."  A child's affection for engaging with objects opens opportunities to think in dynamic ways.  Artistic thinking is further fostered when drawing, dancing, and other art forms are intertwined with other disciplines like the sciences or language arts.  Accordingly, students at BACS regularly build dioramas, perform in tableaux, and sing hymns.

Take a moment to reflect on the ways that your child thinks artistically at BACS.  Has that artistic thinking resulted in the creation of an object that you keep on your desk or hang prominently on your wall?  Do you find your heart warmed by the memory of your child performing in a play?  If so, please join us in honoring the arts at BACS.

Diversity Forum
Please join us on the evening of Tuesday, January 24 for information and discussion about how BACS is working to increase a sense of belonging for all of the students in our school. We will report on where the Diversity Team has been, where we are now, and where we are headed; we will give an overview of the Inservice we had this fall on increasing cultural competence; and we will provide an opportunity for valuable discussion and Q&A. We recommend this evening for anyone who is already invested in the topic of diversity, and also for those who have questions or curiosity about the topic. We are looking forward to the forum and hope that you can join us!
Thank you 4th Grade Parents!
This morning we were treated to a delightful array of goodies from the parents of our 4th grade students.  It was nice to have some Christmas treats mixed in among the veggies, fruits, breads, and juices.  I certainly adds to the festive atmosphere at school.
Thanks for taking good care of us!
Sincerely,
BACS Faculty and Staff
