Sixth Grade Country Fair - Tuesday, May 10, 2011, 7:00-8:15 pm - Society Building

country flagsMark your calendars!
Travel our 34 country tour and meet our 6th grade experts who will delight in sharing their knowledge with all of you along with some tasty treats.  We welcome parents, family, friends and the community.
BACS students below 6th grade are welcomed to attend if they come with their parents and remain with their parents while visiting the displays.  In the past we have had the unfortunate experience of children arriving with their parents but quickly running off with friends and engaging in unruly and unsafe behaviors.  This spoils the atmosphere of the event that the 6th graders have worked so hard to present.

Last Week of School Afternoon Program

After School "Lunch Bunch"
The Preschool sponsors a lunch program run by Lori Odhner.   Although the Preschool is not in session May 31 to June 2, we WILL be running our afternoon program for any BACS students, since they do not have afternoon school that week.  If you would like to send your child, please contact Joanne Kiel, Preschool Director, soon.  Spaces are limited!
Lunch program runs from noon until 3:00; our drop-in rate is $20 per afternoon.  Call 215-239-5153

 CommuniK-8or via E-mail

This is the 5th issue of the CommuniK-8or that has been circulated in both paper and e-mail versions.  We hope that families are getting used to reading the CommuniK-8or on line.

As we approach the busy end-of-year activities and events, we want to remind everyone to look at their CommuniK-8or e-mail for announcements and scheduling.

We are looking forward to completely cutting out the paper waste and cutting the cost of the infamous PINK PAPER (which seems to be lasting longer than we anticipated).

This is notice that very soon we will only publish via Constant Contact E-mail.
Kid's Live  - Moves to Benade Hall! This Friday, May 6, 7:00 pm

It's theKids Live Meanios vs. Rock n' Roll!  When Curtis wants to sing the epic of his life, a few bad, green, negativity-bringers try to take him down a couple pegs and discourage him from giving guitar playing a second shot.  But as Curtis' great friends Brooke and Reade heroically point out, everyone's worth hearing, and no matter what, you can always try again!  Show starts at 7pm, Friday, May 6th in the BENADE HALL AUDITORIUM.  We'll also be having two more all-new episodes there May 13th and 20th.

Eighth Grade Girls Service Project Results

The eighth grade girls are pleased to have raised $740 for Heifer International, an organization which gives livestock to families in extreme need around the world. Because the fundraiser was in the month of April, the girls were able to take advantage of matching funds which brought their total to $1480, enough to buy two cows and several other smaller animals.  Thanks to all who supported their efforts!

 Thanks to 3rd Grade Parents!

Thanks to our 3rd Grade Parents for a lovely treat-day spread!  On April 20th we were happy to discover a delicious array of "goodies" and "healthies" in the Teachers' Lounge.  We are very thankful for these special days!
        Sincerely,
            BACS Faculty and Staff

Useful Service

Phil Schnarr, our School Pastor, recently led a faculty study exploring useful service. We examined some of the ways in which children engage in useful service. Looking around the school, I frequently see our students engaging in useful service. Here are a few examples:

  • A few weeks ago our students participated in a walkathon that raised over $7,000 to aid the New Church society in Japan reeling from the effects of the devastating earthquake and tsunami.
  • Every day a crew of BACS students collects our trash and recycling then delivers it to the dumpster.
  • 7th and 8th grade students celebrated Earth Day a few weeks ago by laying wood chips down on trails and doing other projects that care for the Lord's creation.
  • Also see the announcement elsewhere in this issue about the 8th grade girls' service project

I want to personally thank those who headed up these projects: Kiri Rogers for leading the Japan walkathon, Molly Cronlund for supervising the work crew, Gail Neukum for coordinating our Earth Day celebration, and Brita Conroy for guiding the 8th grade girls' class. These events stir our students' affections, helping to affirm their use as members of our New Church community. "What are some of the ways that you see your child engaged in useful service?"
