 HEIFER HELPERS CAFÉ

The BACS 8th grade girls invite you to enjoy homemade baked goods, coffee, tea and other drinks at a café in the Society Building lobby on Saturday, April 16th from 9:00am till noon.  We are raising money for Heifer International, an organization which provides livestock to impoverished families all over the world, so that they can have a renewable source of food, clothing and income.  Please join us in helping our neighbors in need.

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops for EducationBACS is now participating in Box Tops for Education.  Clip the Box Tops symbol from hundreds of participating products and send them to school.  General Mills, Betty Crocker, Scott Paper products, Pillsbury, and Ziplock bags are just a few of many.  Each one is worth 10 cents when our school redeems them.

There will be collection containers at Mrs. Child's office and the Pastor's Office.  If you have questions, please feel free to contact Lee Allen, leeasplundh@gmail.com or Erin Parker, ecjkparker@gmail.com.

 Kids Live Show

Kids Live

Catch the wave!  The all-ages, mind-brightening, fun-blast known as The Kids Live Show rolls on with another decade-defining episode this Friday, April 15th

at 7:00 pm in the Bryn Athyn College auditorium.  In "Good, Goo, and Grumblebumps," Curtis, Brooke and Reade try to cope with some extremely odd new arrivals to the neighborhood, and a mysterious goo that can communicate a bad mood through touch.  Sound like too much for our heroes to handle?  Well, I forgot to mention, they'll have the power of looking for the good in people on their side.  Plus, why is Snail throwing boxes everywhere?  Tickets are free!!

Food for Thought: The Virtue of Diligence

The Moral Virtues Project @ BACS

The Virtue of Diligence

From the Word

And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children (Deuteronomy 6: 7).

When someone prepares himself most eagerly to achieve some end or effect, by seeking out and organizing the means to achieve it, he can no longer contain himself once all the preparations are complete (AC 5869).

Diligence as a virtue:

Setting goals, focusing attention, showing industry and tireless devotion, while resisting distraction, these are all ingredients for successful living. Experience and research show that students who demonstrate these attributes of diligence under the guidance of skilled instructors experience success in school. Diligence is key to mastering higher level concepts and skills in any field.

With so many interests clamoring for our attention, the virtue of diligence seems harder to acquire in today's world. But along with a host of distractions has come a multitude of new "apps."  Diligent use of these new tools for learning provides opportunity for better, deeper and more satisfying understanding of both natural and spiritual truths.

Practicing Diligence:

Being diligent means that you are not afraid of hard work when it's necessary. You keep going even when faced with distractions.

Diligence also means:

You get help when you need it because what you are doing is too important to give up on.  If the way you are doing something is not working for you, figure out how to change things. When you get sad or discouraged, stop for a moment. Think about what you need in order to meet your goal. Then start again.*

What we hope ever to do with ease, we must learn first to do with diligence.

(Samuel Johnson,English Poet, Critic and Writer. 1709-1784)

 Director's Message

Diligence and Joy at BACS

Our school theme of the moral virtues has covered many different topics this year. The focus for the month of April is diligence.  Observing the diligence of our students at BACS over the last several months has helped me to remember the joy that is often contained in diligence. A very clear example of this is the way in which students perform musically for our worship services. We have been the grateful recipients of singing and instrumental performances by students of all different age groups. The joy that these students experience while performing, as well as the joy they bring to other students and teachers, is the positive outcome of their diligence in practicing their musical talents. And hopefully the practice itself contains moments of joy. We are so fortunate to be in a school where students have many opportunities to experience joy through diligence.
