August

Dear Greetings!
Dusk's sun light illuminates the tops of the trees with colors of gold mixed with softer shades of ruby and burnt orange. The tree tops sway back and forth and back and forth.
I wonder: If the trees bend with the wind and sunlight daily, why is it so hard for us humans to do the same? Perhaps it's because we are so busy "working" that we take no notice of our core values and needs.
But ask yourself: "What am I when there is no more work to be done?" A friend asked me this recently and I have been pondering it ever since.
After teaching a Journey to the Core workshop, I dug deep this past week asking myself the same question and something life changing happened. Much like the trees  that bend, life's elasticity took me into a whole new direction... I became and AUNT for the first time! The joyfulness of my niece's birth has reminded me of a few important things the same friend once told me and it applies to all of you wherever you are in your life:

"This moment is precious.

It will never happen again.

Experience it fully,

Whether it's painful or pleasurable.

You are a treasure.

There will never be another being like you.

Do and say the things that matter to you most.

Today!

Tarry not!

I challenge you!"

with love and gratitude,
-Liza

Warrior's Heart: Learning the Power of Resilience
by Liza Pitsirilos

Our resistance to change keeps us locked and settled in our fickle ways. I see patterns within myself that keep me from achieving the changes I wish to see in my life. Perhaps it is the fear of falling and being broken by the experience. But there is a force greater than myself that keeps me making bolder choices in my life and that is my warrior's heart. A few things I have learned about this force is:

A warrior is... armed and guarded when it's time for battle and a warrior's heart knows how to remove it when the battle is over.

HOW TO EXERCISE WHILE SITTING
by Ana T. Forrest

I've written recently about the sequences I designed for our military to help with the stress of their work, and I'd like to share some of this with you. Let's focus first on poses you can do while just sitting in a chair.

Whether you are a fighter pilot or a "desk jockey," sitting all day is very hard on the body, even with fancy or expensive chairs. Sitting contributes to collapsed posture and low energy levels -- conditions that are far too common today. It shortens and contracts muscles in the legs and torso, and tends to exacerbate rounded shoulders and stress in the neck.

Slouching inhibits digestion, causes constipation and low back pain as well as neck pain, and compromises breathing, which impairs clear thinking and leads to brain fatigue and poor decisions. It dulls the immune system so that you are more inclined to get sick and be irritable. When you are slumping, your productivity tends to decrease dramatically.

YOGI GUARDIANS, ON A MISSION TO HEAL
by Mary Billards of the New York Times

ANA FORREST is an itinerant yoga teacher riding the circuit, selling out workshops in South Africa and conducting training sessions in Houston. She is to Yoga Journal as Angelina Jolie is to Us magazine : a mainstay.

Say "Forrest Yoga" to a yogi, and the first word that comes to mind is "intense." It is known for its long holding of positions, emphasis on abdominal core work and standing series that can go on for 20 poses on each side. Ms. Forrest, 53, based in Orcas Island, Wash., devised her rigorous style with no less a goal than curing the ails of the modern world, including computer roadkill bodies (lower back tightness, shoulder pains and neck aches) and spiritual malaises that lead to destructive behaviors like addictions. The classes attract N.F.L. players, recovering addicts, dancers and cancer patients.
