The Children are Watching PBS

PBS Home Video explores how parents' behavior impacts the behavior of their children. This DVD reveals how parents need to be positive role models for children. The lives of four families with teenagers is documented; by stepping into their lives, the viewer sees how actions can have unintended results.

 

Screening and Assessment for Family Engagement, Retention, and Recovery SAFERR

This manual offers screening tools and principles to help child welfare staff screen parents for potential substance abuse and make decisions about children's safety. Additionally, it offers guidelines for collaborating with substance abuse and court systems to improve family outcomes.

Most people think that since these "herbal incense" are legal, it must be safe. This pamphlet explains that the unknown toxic chemicals in this drug may be as dangerous as the ones found in marijuana, and some experts believe even more dangerous.

As families come together to watch their favorite football teams battle it out, Big Alcohol will be bombarding our NFL playoffs with beer ads during every commercial break.  While families are watching football kids are getting brainwashed by beer ads.  Help youth leaders and Marin Institute fight back against Big Alcohol advertising.  In 2008, the Marin Institute created the Free The Bowl national video contest. It empowers youth (ages 10-20) to make original "counter-beer-ads" to speak out against bombarding youth with inappropriate ads during sports events like the Super Bowl.

Celebrating 19 years of DFHAM in February, the month continues to be a time for schools, businesses and communities to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles and raise public awareness about substance abuse prevention.  DFHAM features events and activities initiated and sponsored by partnerships across the State.  We encourage you to do the same and join together in February 2011 to express your support for drug-free lifestyles and take action to keep Hawai`i healthy and drug-free!
