Trimaran Breaks Round The World Record

The awesome sailing trimaran that broke the Transatlantic sailing record has set a new record for circumnavigation of the globe - 29,000 miles in 45 days, 13 hours.   Banque Populaire V accomplished this feat at an average speed of 26.5 knots.

You can get that same sensation of speed in a WR17 with a lot less effort and cost. The Banque Populaire V is 131 feet long, requires a very large crew and costs 10's of millions of dollars while the WR17 is 17 feet long, can be sailed solo and is less than $10,000.  Read more about their voyage here

Sailing is the Great Escape

Steve McQueen in "The Great Escape"
In the March issue of Sailing Magazine, columnist Chris Caswell distills the appeal of sailing: a great escape.  An escape from the craziness of the world, the overwhelming media messages and intense communications we are subject to day in and day out (enewsletters from WindRider, of course, are the exception).  Chris says "But sailing is a time when you can take a mental deep breath and let your mind drift, free of interruptions.  You can actually have a conversation with your spouse and family".

It could be a testimonial for WindRider.  The WindRider trimaran is easy to rig, launch, sail and store.  It is also safe, durable, comfortable, affordable and fast.  Sounds like a GREAT escape to me.  Read the article here.

Jim Brown to Attend 2nd WOW Rally - Newport, Rhode Island in June

Jim Brown at Tiki Bar

Jim Brown, designer of the WR16 and WR17, will be in Newport for the America's Cup event June 23 to July 1st.  WindRider will be there too from July 25 to July 29th and we invite you to come and join us.  We will be gathering informally in and around Fort Adams and the beaches toward the Sailing Center.

We are still making arrangements for launching and beaching our boats, but please put the above dates on your calendar.  Hotels will fill quickly.  There is a campground about 5 miles away called Second Beach which you might want to investigate.  Even if you don't have a boat, please join us and take a test sail in the WindRider 17.  Watch our website and updates in this newsletter for more information.

Tips & Testimonials

Our customers do the best job of sharing best practices and telling the WindRider story.  Here is a helpful video of stepping a WR17 mast.  I have seen this with an electric or hand operated winch.

Two boats corporate video

" I must say I can not imagine a better boat currently available that would have allowed me to begin sailing on my own with as much fun and success as I had than the Windrider 17. HERE'S WHY............STABILITY;  at least twice probably three times I would have been in Very Serious trouble......spell that capsize if I had been on a small mono hull. CONTROL;  everything is within easy reach (except maybe dropping the main sail)  for the novice giving them lots of opportunity to experiment  SET UP;  45minutes solo......say no more. TRAILERING;  a light weight dream  (it is a shame I spend gas with the f250).  Capacity; allows for company and equipment, etc.  Simplicity has its advantages."
