WindRider Experience                 June 2011

Thrifty and the Theory of Relative Fun

There were 1,118,130 boats sold in 2010 and 929,900 of them were pre-owned.   According to Liz Walz, Editor of Boating Industry Magazine, people are more "thrifty" in these current economic times.  Clearly the used boat market is considered a more thrifty alternative.  So why not just buy a "thrifty" boat?

familyMany of you learned about the Theory of Relativity in school in which, in a simplistic human context, one's point of reference  determines their reaction to a situation.  The classic example is a millionaire not receiving as much pleasure from receiving a $5,000 inheritence as a person earning $25,000 a year.

I have come up with my own version under the title "Theory of Relative Fun"; specifically for boat owners.  An owner of  WR17 will have relatively more fun under various boating conditions such as number of passengers, type of water conditions, wind conditions and amount of time available for sailing than, say, the owner of a Hobie Cat who needs the perfect amount of wind to have fun, or the owner of a large monohull who needs a whole day to prepare for, and put away after a sail.   Call me "thrifty" but I want my time on the water to be fun under any conditions.

Versatility is what increases the Relative Fun and now its even greater with the WindFisher conversion kit.  See below and learn how to increase your Relative Fun.

Prominent multihull designer Jim Brown has developed a conversion kit platform the "WindFisher" to make the WindRider 17 your "do-it-all" boat for versatile FUN.   Your relative fun has just increased!

You can download the plans, which Jim has generously made available to current and future WindRider 17 owners  FREE HERE  after completing a contact form. There is no other boat on the market, at the price of a WR17, on which you can sail, fish and camp - alone or with others.  Go ahead and plan that summer vacation and leave the fuel and hotel bills to others!

Update on Other WindRider Models
RAVE yellow

Despite the popularity of the WR17, many are eagerly awaiting the release of the WR10, WR16 and even the RAVE.  These models have been out of production for approximately 8 years.

We are accepting orders for the WR10 and WR16, expected delivery June 30 and July 15th respectively.  Some parts supply issues have caused unfortunate delays.

There has been particular outpouring of support for the WR RAVE.  During the first week of July we expect to make an announcement about the WR RAVE and our ability to resume production to meet demand.

This coming Saturday June 18th plan to be sailing in your WindRider well past dinner. We will be enjoying light until about 10 pm in Minnesota.

Summer Sailstice is the global sailing holiday celebrated on the weekend closest to the summer solstice. Every year, Summer Sailstice connects over 17,000 sailors all over the world - cruisers, racers and recreational - to celebrate and showcase life under sail.

WIN PRIZES - Plan to be out that evening and take pictures or video to submit to WindRider. We will send you hats or t-shirts to thank you for those we post to our website.

We are saddened to share news that Don Maxwell, former owner of WindRider and a great resource to all WindRider trimaran owners, passed away earlier this week.  His energy, enthusiasm and generosity in sharing the WindRider Experience with others will be greatly missed.

Thanks for your interest in WindRider, and don't hesitate to contact me with any requests or suggestions.

Sincerely,
