Launch Day Postponed
You wouldn't read "Mother's Day Postponed" or "Memorial Day Postponed", but when it is a rainy 46 degrees on a mid-May day, postponing Launch Day is prudent. (Some might say moving to Florida from Minnesota is also prudent). You see, Launch Day is that special day for us northerners, when we completely release the bonds of winter and step through to the glory of warmth and light. Alas, hopefully tomorrow.

Dean and Robert Sanberg launch day |
In the May issue of Sailing Magazine, editor Bill Schanen reminisces about the hustle, bustle, and outright hard work of launch day. I am reminded of how easy it is to wait a day, and instead, clean the garage and write a newsletter. You see, with my WindRider 17, I simply hitch the trailer to my Jetta, drive 8 miles to one of our beautiful city lakes, rig for 30 minutes while at the boat landing, back in and set her adrift. No need to clean, buff, polish, adjust, repair, fine-tune; the WindRider is ready when I am. We are producing with a short backlog at the moment, so If you are interested in purchasing a WindRider 17 for this season, contact your dealer, call us at the factory 612-338-2170 or email us. |
 Performance Sail Now Available
Don Maxwell, Technical Advisor to WindRider, and Ullman Sails, Sarasota, Florida, have created the "WR17 Performance Sail". Adapted from existing Rave sails, the WR Performance Sail is laminate construction and has 40% more area than the standard sail - now 137 square feet. The large square top design is typical of modern multihull performance rigs.
We do not advise novice sailors to purchase the WR Performance Sail; the standard WindRider 17 sail is a very good sail well adapted for the boat over a wide range of conditions. The WR 17 Performance Sail is designed for experienced sailors looking for faster sailing under moderate conditions. These sails take the WindRider 17 out of the "virtually impossible to capsize" category, and may require some live ballast ("hiking out") in wind speeds above 12-15 knots.
The Performance Sail will include standard battens and a single reef point. A second reef point can be added as an option as well as higher Quality E-Glass battens (including 4 10mm Tensioners). Please email me if you would like pricing and more information on the WR17 Performance Sail |
