Fred Mills: What's the Story?Storyteller

Families and children of all ages are invited to enjoy an evening with local storyteller Fred Mills as he shares tales and poems that will excite and entertain.  Fred brings years of storytelling expertise that inform and stir the imagination of every listener, bringing out the storyteller in all of us.  No registration required, just bring your family, friends & neighbors.

Chess Simultaneous Exhibition
Saturday, March 5  1 - 3 pm  

     Think you can beat a master-ranked player if he's playing 30 other people at once?  Now is your chance to find out!  Lou Mercuri comes to the Library to give a brief talk and (perhaps) defeat all contestants in round-robin style play.  $5 saves your seat.  We will also have a separate room for informal pickup games.

Koffee Klatch for Adults of the North Shore 'First Fridays' series at 10:15 am.  
 

     March 4: Schedule Change  Line Dancing is back thanks to Christine Loiacano.  (She teaches at the Community House.)  Bring a friend to learn some steps to "Some Kind of Wonderful", "Begin the Beguine" and others. 

    

     April 8:  Rita Parisi returns to present her new one woman show: Zelda: Musings from the First American Flapper. This is a tribute to the wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald, an often misunderstood woman; a woman who was also a mother, an accomplished dancer, an exhibited artist and a published writer in her own right.

  Join us on Saturday, March 12th from 11 am to noon to celebrate all things Irish.

Dads & Donuts  Saturday, March 26 from 11 to noon.  This is a story time designed especially for dads and children ages 2 years & up. (Moms are always invited.) Snacks will follow 30 minutes of stories.

Teen Poetry Contest

The Hamilton-Wenham Public Library is pleased to announce the first Teen Poetry Contest.  The Teen Poetry Contest is open to teens in grades 6 to 12.  Contest begins February 1, 2011, and ends at midnight April 30, 2011.  Poems must have one or both of the two themes: lost and/or found.  There are two winning grade categories: grades 6-8, and grades 9-12; and, two winning theme categories: lost or found.  Maximum of three poems may be submitted.  Cash prizes to be awarded (provided by The Friends of the Hamilton-Wenham Library).  Winners to read their poem aloud at the teen art show reception in the Library's Young Adult area on Tuesday, May 17th, 6:30 pm.   Please see the Informed Teens blog at www.hwlibrary.org, for contest rules, and to obtain an entry form for each poem submitted to the contest.  For more information, please come into the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library, or call Kim Claire, Young Adult Librarian at 978.468.5577, ext. 14, or email [email protected].     

 

BOM: Battle-Gaming of Massachusetts 

Play and learn a variety of tabletop strategy battle games such as Warhammer 40k, Warhammer Fantasy, and Brikwars.  BOM meets most Saturdays at the Library from 10am to 4pm.  To join this illustrious group of gamers, simply show up. Teen Think Tank Movie Series: Despicable Me  

Despicable Me, Summary: A criminal mastermind uses a trio of orphan girls as pawns for a grand scheme, and finds himself profoundly changed by the growing love between them. (computer-animated comedy)   Rated PG.  Showing on our big screen Wednesday, March 30 from 2:30-4 pm.

 

Teen Think Tank Meeting

Make the future happen, create it in your vision.

Come share your bright ideas! This group (for patrons ages 11-17) is the Library's teen advisory board. The purpose of the Think Tank to work with the Teen / Young Adult Librarian to improve the programs and services designed specifically for teens. This collaboration includes selecting books, music and movies for the young adult section; brainstorming and creating programs and special events for young adults; and helping with the Library's teen space and webpage.  Join us on Thursday, March 31 from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Yard as Habitat
Wednesday, April 6 from 7-8 pm.

Audubon's Ipswich River Sanctuary Naturalist Scott Santino will show us how to create a wildlife habitat garden. All living things have essential needs; during this presentation we'll discuss how to attract birds and butterflies by planting native wildflowers, shrubs and trees. Speak with representatives from Ipswich River Greenscapes, Hamilton-Wenham Garden Club, and Curbside Compost before and after the lecture & enter a raffle for a Butterfly Bush.
