Katy Brunault of the Hamilton-Wenham School of Dance, Mark Warner of the Professional Martial Arts Academy, Katy O'Brien of Peace Kids Yoga, and Paul Mahoney of Great Bay Tai Chi.  
 

Snack Creation Stations will be available from 1:30-4 pm.

Chess Simultaneous Exhibition
Saturday, March 5  1 - 3 pm

     Think you can beat a master-ranked player if he's playing 30 other people at once?  Now is your chance to find out!  Lou Mercuri comes to the Library to give a brief lecture and (perhaps) defeat all contestants in round-robin style play.  $5 saves your seat.  We will also have a separate room for informal pickup games.
     All ages and players of all abilities are welcome.  Information on Lou Mercuri can be found by clicking here to

Teen News: February Break Events
 
     Beverly Hospital Babysitting Course Tuesday, Feb. 22, 10 am - 5 pm.  Pre-registration is required, space is limited to 14 participants.  Students must be 11 years old to attend, course fee is $45. 
     Henna Tattoo Party & a Craft  Friday, Feb. 25, 1 - 3 pm.  This event is for teens aged 12 -18, registration is required.
     Toy Story 3, showing on our big screen, Thursday, Feb. 24  2 - 3:45 pm

     Teen Think Tank meeting:  Thursday, Feb. 24, 6:30 - 7:45 pm  This group, comprising patrons aged 11-17, serves as the Library's teen advisory board, sharing recommendations and thoughts on events, new items, improvements to the teen space & webpage.

Children's Room
Special Events & Story Times
Dads & Donuts Saturday, Feb. 5 at 11.  This is a story time designed especially for dads and children ages 2 years & up. (Moms are always invited.) Snacks will follow 30 minutes of stories.
Chess for Kids  Thursdays, Feb. 3, 10, 17 & March 3  from 3:30 - 4:30.
Holiday Stories & Crafts  Saturday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, March 12 at 11.
 
 

Registration is open for most of our story programs:

Baby Bookworms for newborns to 18 mos.:  Fridays at 10:30 or 11 am from Jan 28-March 18.  30 minutes of stories, songs & rhymes.

Terrific Twos and Threes on Mondays at 11 am from Jan. 24-March 14, featuring 30 minutes of stories & songs.

Rhythm & Rhyme for preschoolers and kindergartners: Tuesdays at 1 pm from Jan 25-Mar 15, includes stories, fingerplays & craft.

Legomania  non-competitive, non-robotics program:  Grades 1-2: Wednesdays 3-4 pm on Jan. 26, Feb. 9, March 2 & 16.  Grades 3-5 Wednesdays 3-4 pm on Feb 2 & 16, March 9 & 23.

Author Talk

Barbara Kent Lawrence presents The Hungry i: A workbook for partners of men with eating disorders.

 

Join us on Wednesday, February 2 at 7 pm for her presentation and discussion, all are welcome and encouraged to attend.


 TEEN POETRY CONTEST: Themes are LOST / FOUND

 

The Hamilton-Wenham Public Library Poetry Contest is open to teens in grades 6 to 12.  There will be two winning grade categories: grades 6-8, and grades 9-12. The contest begins February 1, 2011 and ends at midnight April 30, 2011.  Cash prizes will be awarded (provided by The Friends of the Hamilton-Wenham Library). Finalists will be notified by phone or email by May 10th.  Winners must read their poem at the teen art show reception in the Hamilton-Wenham Library's Young Adult area on Tuesday, May 17 at 6:30 pm. 
 

Poetry Contest Rules to qualify for judging:

 

  • Entries must be original work.
  • Maximum of 3 poems per person.
  • Poem must have one or both of the two themes: lost / found
  • Every entry must have a title.
  • Include the title of the poem on the entry form and on the page with your poem.
  • Do NOT place your name anywhere on the same page as your poem.  To comply with blind judging, author's name must not appear on the same page as the poem, not even on the back.
  • Attach EACH POEM to a separate page with your name, email address, street address, phone number, school, and grade.
  • Deadline for submission: midnight April 30, 2011

 Annual Friends of the Library Membership Drive


 

   The Friends are the fund raising arm of the Library, providing vital funds for museum passes and coupons, programming for both adults and children, speakers, workshops, and Summer Reading program events.  The Friends also provide for the purchase of special equipment, hardware and furniture.
