Inclusive Communities

Greetings!

It is always validating to know what a difference our programs can make.  A recent Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities program showed tremendous evaluations results. Participants were asked a series of questions measuring their comfort levels responding to stereotypes:

HOW COMFORTABLE ARE YOU
CONFRONTING A STEREOTYPE BASED ON:
  • ABILITY STATUS           [Pre: 38% | Post: 79%]
  • BODY TYPE                 [Pre: 38% | Post: 67%]
  • CLASS                         [Pre: 38% | Post: 63%]
  • NATIONAL ORIGIN        [Pre: 45% | Post: 60%]
  • RACE                          [Pre: 34% | Post: 61%]
  • SEXUAL ORIENTATION  [Pre: 44% | Post: 77%]

Additionally, 97% of participants reported being "more open to having friends of different races, genders, sexual orientations, classes, and ethnicities," and 98% agreed that "I can use my skills and knowledge in a leadership position at my school."

Your support makes these results posible. As always, please contact our office by phone at (804) 515-7950 or by emailing Allison Conyers, Director of Education & Training, Trey Hartt, Development & Program Coordinator, or Jonathan Zur, President & CEO, if we can support your efforts to foster respectful and affirming school communities.  Thank you for helping VCIC achieve success through inclusion!

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

Educational Equity Initiative

The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities' Educational  Equity Initiative develops educational stakeholders who are passionate, committed, and prepEquity Initiative Participantsared to lead efforts to  eliminate disparities based on race and class in all areas of school life and academic achievement. Through interactive and engaging workshops, participating educators learn about how bias and prejudice affect schools, learning, and teaching, while developing strategies for creating more supportive learning environments.  Such programming is built off of the premise that the process of institutional transformation of our educational system must begin with a process of personal transformation on the part of the individual stakeholders within that system.
