Greetings!
A recent report notes that over 90,000 students in Virginia schools were suspended or expelled in the 2011-2012 school year. More striking, while black males make up only 12% of the overall student population, they account for 40% of all suspensions and expulsions. Please contact our office by phone at (804) 515-7950 or by emailing Ali Thompson, Director of Education & Training, or Jonathan Zur, President & CEO, so we can partner with you to build more inclusive, affirming, and just school communities! |

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT
RACE: Are We So Different?
The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities is pleased to partner with the Science Museum of Virginia in spring 2012, when the "RACE: Are We So Different?" exhibit comes to Virginia. From January 28 - April 29, students and adults will be able to explore the science of human variation, the history of race, and race in our culture today through this interactive and engaging exhibition.
School trips to the Science Museum can include an add-on facilitated dialogue led by Inclusive Communities staff. Additionally, professional development for educators tied to the exhibit's content will be available, with funding support from The Alexander Lebenstein Fund for Tolerance and Human Rights and the Herbert J and Ruth B. Rubel Holocaust Education Fund of Richmond Jewish Foundation. Check out the Science Museum's Field Trip Guide for details, or contact Inclusive Communities with questions. |
