New census figures about poverty in metropolitan Richmond are startling. Neighborhoods that ten years ago were areas of high-density poverty no longer fit this profile. Meanwhile, areas in 2000 that didn't fit the profile now do. Are there differences in poverty between city and suburb, between White and Black, between Asian and Latino? This program examines the dramatically changing landscape of human need and what we must do collectively -- city and counties alike -- to address the plight of fellow Richmonders and to build a just and inclusive community. Breakout sessions will explore the impact of poverty in one of six sectors: business, civic life, education, healthcare, housing, and religion. |
