Greetings!
Welcome to the February 2011 education of the Building Inclusive Schools Monthly Email Update! The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities is pleased to provide this service to educators across the Commonwealth to support your efforts in fostering respectful and affirming school communities. As always, feel free to contact our office by phone at (804) 515-7950 or by emailing Ali Thompson, Director of Education & Training, or David LeFebvre, Program & Event Coordinator, if we can provide more direct support of your work. |
ACTION PLAN PROFILE:
An Achievable Dream
The action plan profile highlights activities taking place in Virginia schools that advance Inclusive Communities' work. As you hold programs in your school throughout the year, please share information about them to be included in future email updates!
This month, we profile students from An Achievable Dream High School who sent a delegation of students to VCIC's Project Inclusion program in October 2010. These students held a week of activities to address bullying in their school. Nearly 480 students signed an "Anti-Bullying Pledge." To close the week's campaign, the students led a pep rally called "Black Out Bullying." Their efforts were featured in the Daily Press.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT: Customized Workshops
In addition to our well-respected collection of established programs, the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities can work with you to design and customize programs to meet your school's specific needs.
Sessions can be designed to address a particular issue (racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.), develop a particular skill (conflict resolution, communication, leadership, teambuilding, etc.), or address a broad range of diversity topics. Programs can be designed for a few hours or a few days, and can be tailored for age groups ranging from elementary school to adults. For more information, contact Inclusive Communities today!
