More Details

GlassFlixGlass Flix:

Glasswerks' Glass in Hollywood Films

Blockbuster flicks are packed with explosions and dangerous stunts, and many times glass is used to absorb and visualize the impact of these special effects to fully deliver the punch.

Glass Flicks

Using Glass in the Big Screen

Overwhelmingly, the type glass we most often produce for our clients who supply movie glass is 1/8" Tempered Glass.

Fully-Tempered Glass is achieved when annealed float glass is heated at a furnace temperature of 1150° F (621° C), and then rapidly cooled or "quenched" by blowing cool air simultaneously on both surfaces. This process of thermal manipulation both toughens the glass lite and significantly decreases the risk of injury during glass breakage.

Due to its high compression levels, tempered glass shatters into many small, blunt pieces rather than breaking into large, sharp shards, which are most responsible for serious glass injuries.

Set Glass supplies glass exclusively for the entertainment industry.  They used approximately 300 to 400 of Glasswerks' 1/8" tempered glass for the opening scene of Mission Impossible III, among other scenes in the movie.

The opening scene, however, was set in an abandoned warehouse and involved a shootout full of glass breaking effects, some of which can be viewed in the trailer below.

Set Glass also provided glass for the previous Teminator I,II, and III; Matrix I,II and III; and many more movies TV shows like CSI , Heroes, and 24.

Other Glasswerks clients who supply glass for the entertainment industry include:

Daly Glass (North Hollywood, CA) - Pearl Harbor, Terminator I, II & III

Kelly's Glass (Las Vegas, NV) - Animal Planet Channel, DIY Channel

Crystal Clear (Simi Valley, CA) - Is using Glasswerks' 3/8" and 1/2" tempered glass for Transformers III which is now in production

Omega Cinema Props (Los Angeles, CA) - Supplies glass and furniture props to a variety of shows, including the hit TV Series Glee
