 Great Glasswerk
Porto's Bakery in Downey, CA

This week we are showcasing our latest Great Glasswerk: Portos Bakery and Cafe in Downey, California contracted and installed by J.D. Glass.
Location:
To many Southern California residents, the Porto's Bakery and Cafe family business is easily considered a Los Angeles landmark. Only two locations had existed in the Southland until Nov. 5 of this year when the highly-anticipated Downey, CA branch finally opened its doors.
According to this syndicated Telegram Press article, Porto's Bakery and Cafe in Downey has been averaging at 5,000 customers a day since its opening--far exceeding its desired daily customer base of 1,500.
The two-floored, 18,000-square-foot, modern-designed restaurant has a spacious open concept.

Fabrication and Specs:
Glasswerks cut and laminated the glass for both the storefront and fascia, communicating a colorful pastry palette using Saflex Vanceva® fade-resistant, colored PVB interlayers laminated within the glass. The finished product mimics a stained glass facade; the daylight naturally illuminates color within, and at night, indoor lighting beams the color outward.
Saflex Vanceva® boasts a wide database of hues, easily cross references Vanceva color interlayer to standard color pallete systems such as Pantone®, RAL®, etc. allowing for precise and diverse color-matching capabilities.
J.D. Glass contracted the job and installed all glass. Despite the tight 1-2 day lead times, J.D. Glass and Glasswerks--through a terrific partnership--completed the project in just 4 months.
