Dante Lecture
On Satur day evening, October 9, Frank will deliver the keynote address
at The Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C. celebration of "The Heritage
of Francesco DeSanctis." DeSanctis was the legendary 19C founder of
modern Italian literary criticism, and one of the most important
commentators on Dante. Frank's lecture will focus on DeSanctis' interpretation of the famous
"Paolo and Francesca" episode in The Inferno, Canto 5, and will set the
stage for dramatic readings of the canto in both Italian and English. If
you would like to get a taste of just how fascinating and moving canto 5
is, you can go to http://dante.georgetown.edu and login into "MyDante" the website which Frank has developed as the showpiece of Georgetown's Dante project, to
introduce American audiences more fully to the extraordinary pleasure of
reading The Divine Comedy. |
