Weekly Inspiration
We pray tonight, O God, for confidence in ourselves, our powers and our purposes in this beginning of a New Year. Ward us from all lack of faith and hesitancy and inspire in us not only the determination to do a year's work well, but the unfaltering belief that what we wish to do, we will do. Such Faith, O Lord, is born of Works. Every deed accomplished finishes not only itself but is fallow ground for future deeds. Abundantly endow us, Our Father, with this deed-born Faith. W.E.B. Du Bois

Martin Luther King Day Ceremony

In response to the recent shooting tragedy in Tucson, the Ridgefield Clergy Association is asking all clergy, on behalf of the community's religious congregations, to commit to a joint pledge at the Martin Luther King Day ceremony, planned for Monday, January 17 at 3:00 p.m. in the Town Hall. The pledge reads as follows:

"I pledge to conduct myself in a way that is civil, honest, and respectful toward people with whom I disagree. I value people from different cultures; I value people with different ideas; and I value and cherish the democratic process and understand the importance of mutual respect in civic meetings and wherever citizens engage each other."

The Rev. Les Hughs, as Priest Associate of St. Stephen's Church, has agreed to represent the parish at this event. All interested members of the parish are invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony at Town Hall on Monday afternoon.

Sandwich Generation

Save the Date!  Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 7:00PM:  Join us for an important topic that concerns so many of us.. whether it is now or in your future:   Sandwich Generation:  Strategies for Dealing with your Aging Parents.  Hosted by the Mary Brewster Fund and presented by the Visiting Nurse Association of Ridgefield. The term "Sandwich Generation" describes a growing segment of the population.  Adult children are squeezed between the needs of their aging parent and the demands of their own children, spouses, and careers.  The discussion will offer tools to make sound decisions for you and your family.  We will talk about topics from how to talk to your aging parents, what are the 10 most common signs there is an issue, legal issues and sibling issues.  Don't miss this opportunity to hear from experts, ask questions, and share with others who are experiencing similar situations.  Call Robin Axness at 203-894-9030 or email robinaxness@aol.com for more information and to sign up for this free event.

Rector Search

Search Committee Update:

The search committee continues to meet regularly and is now in the process of putting together the parish survey. The survey is a very important document that not only allows us to hear from the parish but will also be a part of the parish profile that potential candidates will receive. Our goal is to have 100% participation from the parish. We will keep you regularly updated as we proceed and welcome any questions, comments or concerns that you might have.

Stewardship

Stewardship update:  Stewardship update:  The pledge campaign is in the home stretch. The vestry has proposed a modest budget for 2011, which requires our pledge campaign to deliver $530,000, from 200 pledges.  As of January 12, we had received 173 pledges totaling a commitment of $442,128

We're continuing to follow up with other who have pledged in the past, and will provide a final update as part of the annual report in January.  To those that have responded - Thank-you for your generosity!  To those that volunteered to assist with the campaign, you have my heart felt thanks for your time and energy.
