Cathedral Read

Tuesday, June 19 at 5:30 p.m.

Diarmaid MacCullough's Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years,

winner of the Cundill Prize in History, was a New York Times bestseller

as well as one of the 100 notable books of 2010 according to

The New York Times Book Review.

For our gathering in May, we will consider "The First Christianity"

(Chapters 4-8, or Episode I of the DVD series) and

"Catholicism-the unpredictable rise of Rome"

(Chapters 9-12, or Episode II of the DVD).

Please join us for the conversation-whether you have read the selection or not.

Operation Backpack

Operation Backpack is an outreach program for the

Christ Church Cathedral family in cooperation with the

Family Intervention Team (FIT).

This is our second year to sponsor this project.

Our junior youth, rising grades 3 through 7,

are serving as the leadership team. The program was conceived

when the FIT case workers realized that children were beginning school

without supplies or uniforms. There will be a tree, similar to our

Christmas Angel Tree, from which you may adopt a child,

or you may sign up to make a monetary donation.

The tree will be up for the entire month of July.

Our goal is to have 20 backpacks filled with loose leaf

notebook paper, pencils and pens-one for each child-and enough money

for vouchers to be used by case workers to purchase necessary

uniform items and school needs for each child.

The project deadline is Sunday, July 22.

The junior youth will gather next Monday, June 25, from 10:00 a.m.

until noon to make preparations. Please join them if you would like to help.

Look for the tree on the piano in the Chapter House next Sunday.
