Camp Cherith ~ Summer 2011

Greetings Camp Cherith Family,

Scott Taylor

Scott Taylor - Boys' Week 2 Director

As summer approaches in Minnesota and the snow continues to melt, we are preparing and looking forward to another great camping season this summer at Camp Cherith.  The theme for this summer is Bring It.  Our focus will not only be on developing our personal walks with our Lord Jesus, but preparing the campers to take Him, as we are called to do, to the world in which we live.

Sarah Mallett

Sarah Mallet - Girls' Director

The campers in junior high and senior high school will be studying, during their Bible Exploration time, either I Peter or II Peter, depending upon the week. Our vision is for the campers to study a book of the Bible in its entirety.  We want the campers to shape their lives around the truth found in the Word of God and to practice studying His Word directly from His Word.  Topical studies have value but we see the need to impart to the campers that we are to follow His Word in its entirety.

Once again, the campers will experience a great week

Rob Scott
Rob Scott, Boys' Week 1 Director

with their activities, cabin mates and the staff.  One of the great experiences of camp is for the campers to be able to try a variety of activities, some new to them and others they have tried before, with guidance from those who love the Lord and want to see them grow in their faith in the Lord and in their experiences.  The all-camp activity is an excitement-filled evening and we have already begun discussions for the themes and events for that evening.

Looking forward to a great summer!

Memorial Day
work Weekend

May 27-30

The snow has been melting at camp and we need you and your family to join us in getting Camp Cherith ready for another great summer!

Projects include cleaning, setting up the waterfront, preparing a site for new staff housing, painting several buildings, and many other smaller projects for skilled and unskilled hands.

You provide the labor and we'll provide the meals and lodging! There is always a campfire or two to roast a few marshmallows during the weekend. Come for all or just part of it, whatever works for you (and your whole family).

Contact Ann Wellmann, awnccc@aol.com, 612-615-5842, to make arrangements to join us.

Why Go To Camp? Summer Camp

Did you know that over TEN MILLION American kids go to camp every summer? Whoa! Summer camp has been a U.S. tradition for over 150 years. (North Central Camp Cherith has been providing summer camping experiences for 64 years!)  Back then, before air conditioning was invented, hot city summers were miserable and even unhealthy for children, so escaping to the country for a few weeks became a popular trend. So, what makes Camp Cherith an awesome choice for your summer camp adventure?

You can:

Meet New People, Make Real Friends

Camp might give you a chance to be with people you've never met before. It's a great way to make cool new friends.  And Camp Cherith has awesome counselors and staff!

Learn more about our Savior

You'll spend time in His Word on your own during Morning Watch, with your cabin-mates and your counselor during Bible Exploration.  You'll have time to sing praises, worship, pray, and just participate in evening programming with your entire division.  Each staff member wants to help each camper learn how to make Christ a real part of every phase of their life.

Learn New Skills and Challenge Yourself

All the activities and instruction at Camp Cherith are great opportunities to learn something new -- such as crafts, horsemanship, waterskiing, guitar, snorkeling, or archery. Camp can also help you develop important life skills like independence, self-reliance, and confidence. Since you'll be living with a whole group of people, it's also a great way to learn about cooperation, compromise, and tolerance. Fresh challenges -- like trying new sports, learning new crafts and games, or pushing yourself to achieve something -- can be very rewarding, and it's so much easier to try something new when you are around only girls or boys.

Appreciate Nature

There's a great big world out there, and going to camp helps you learn how beautiful and important it really is. Without trees, soil, water, and wildlife, the Earth (and all the people on it) couldn't survive, and getting out into the woods or mountains can give you a better understanding of God's creation!

Have REAL FUN!

When you get right down to it, going to camp is all about having a good time, and at Camp Cherith you will have real fun!
