Book your place at Going Global 2012, 13-15 March, London 
Going Global is British Council's flagship initiative which attracts over 1000 delegates from more than 70 countries, making it the largest international education conference in the UK.

This year's conference theme is Changing Education for a Changing World. The conference will explore the trends and implications; models for change drawing on case studies from across the world; examine the barriers, and deliver frameworks for action across a number of areas including global partnerships and policy and leadership. As part of the Skills for Employability Programme, British Council is pleased to announce a major international seminar entitled Changing Perceptions of Skills on 14-15 February in Cairo.
The emphasis of the seminar will be on sharing experiences, lessons learned and innovative ideas with a view to identifying constructive approaches and practical recommendations to tackle the low status of skills in societies across the world. Read more.

 

Participate in the international conference Building Effective Employer Engagement in Tunisia, 22-23 February

 

As in many countries, improving employer engagement is a central priority for Tunisia. This two-day conference will showcase good international practice and identify key challenges, opportunities, practical next steps and future collaboration models to make training more industry-driven and enhance the employability of skilled graduates in Tunisia.  Meeting the Skills Challenge in the Arabic World


The importance of skills development to the future stability and prosperity of the Arabic world has been dramatically emphasised by recent political revolutions. At the last WorldSkills Competitions British Council delivered an interactive session on the theme of 'Meeting the Skills Challenge in the Arabic World'. Watch the video of the full session:

"Bringing the Learning Home" in Cairo

Conference in EgyptThe international conference "Bringing the Learning Home" was hosted in Cairo on 21-22 November. The conference focus was on the groundbreaking work of the British Council supported Skills Development Partnerships between UK institutions and counterparts across the Middle East and North Africa region. Enterprise Award in Uzbekistan





In 2011, the Enterprise Award in Uzbekistan  reached all 1200 VET colleges with at least 3 teams of 5 young people in each college. A total of 18 000 young people and 1200 teachers took part in the competition and enterprise training.

The final took place on 1 December and the team from Samarkand region won the 2011 Enterprise Award with their project on Energy Efficiency. Read the whole story here



Enterprising young men and women: Rising to the challenge!




In tradition of the last four years, the British Council once again held the National Enterprise Award Challenge in Pakistan this time with around 800 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges participating - almost double the amount of last year. "This project has made me aware of the concept of social entrepreneurship and now I want to do something useful for the youth and poor people of the society. Please continue holding such projects in future so that more and more people are made aware of this concept", said Izhar Ahmad, a teacher at the Government College of Technology, Nowshera.
