THE BELLA FOUNDATION JOINS FORCES WITH PETS FOR PATRIOTS
Partners with charity to help military members honorably adopt adult shelter pets
Oklahoma City, OK (January 19, 2011) - The Bella Foundation and Pets for Patriots, Inc., a not-for-profit that connects loyal adult shelter pets with our country's loyal service men and women, joined forces to increase the adoption of adult shelter pets. An estimated four million shelter dogs and cats are put to death every year, in spite of numerous studies proving the emotional and physical benefits of companion pets. Working with Pets for Patriots, The Bella Foundation gives our veterans, service members and their families the gift of unconditional friendship and love while providing millions of dogs and cats a second chance at life.
Individuals are eligible from any branch of the United States military and at any stage of their careers - active, reserve, retired or veteran. Eligible adoptions include a dog or cat, at least two years old, as well as large dogs and special needs pets. The Bella Foundation will help any participating military personnel in the community find a needs- and lifestyle-appropriate pet.
"Pets for Patriots works with donors across the country who are motivated to get these loving animals into the homes of our military personnel. This helps us place more adult pets into good homes and save them from being killed," says Eric McCune, President/Founder.
"Our goal is to help shelters, rescues, SPCAs and humane societies re-home harder-to-place pets that still have years of love and life to give," says Beth Zimmerman, founder and executive director of Pets for Patriots. "Companion pets provide real physical and emotional benefits to owners and their families, including those suffering from post-combat stress and other challenges as a result of their military service. We're delighted to work with The Bella Foundation to benefit both pet and person through adult pet adoption, and to support their valuable work in the community."
The Bella Foundation quickly saw the potential to find adult dogs and cats permanent homes with service members. "Our goal is to place and additional 25-50 pets each year," says Eric McCune, "through our partnership with Pets for Patriots, we hope to provide forever homes to even more loving animals with the many military personnel in our area as the program expands."
Service men and women interested in the program must first apply through Pets for Patriots and provide proof of their military service. Approval takes only a day or two, after which the military member can contact The Bella Foundation for assistance in choosing their new best friend.
