Robin Kona
To infinity... and beyond!
Yes, if you zoom in really close it is Buzz Light Year you'll see in Robin Asbury's hand as she crosses the finish line at KONA on Sat October 15th.  For Robin this was a great achievement, but prior to her life changing event in May she had no idea the obstacles that were about to surface. Robin suffered multiple pelvic fractures as a result of a bike accident while on a training ride with her Proctor Academy cycling team.
It has been a long road for Robin, but she has managed to find a way to not only get through her May 2011 bike accident, but continuing to give back to local student athletes. While training after the accident she was a patient here at BE Fit. As she recovered and continued to train she started up a unique program to support underprivileged athletes the community.
After realizing the power of water in rehabilitation Robin developed the Iron-man Scholarship project at The Upper Valley Aquatic Center (UVAC).  The program was developed to allow less fortunate children to be able to join UVAC programs and stimulate their own character and confidence.
We encourage you to check out the Scholarship program at UVAC.  Robin is a great asset to our community as a cycling and running coach of 15 years she has also founded the Upper Valley Triathalon team (Pictured below- find the group on facebook).  Keep up the good work Robin!

Partnering For The Community with UVSEF

BE Fit Physical Therapy is very proud to further recognize the work of the Upper Valley Sports Education Foundation, a not for profit entity that we hope will become a widely used and valuable resource for the Upper Valley community.

UVSEF is an association of parents and health professionals who have come together to raise awareness about important issues and areas in sports and recreation.  One of our main goals is to promote an active, healthy lifestyle through education, research and training.  To work with people of all ages and abilities in order to maintain and improve quality of life, exercise and activity.

In the past two years, UVSEF has focused on two major areas of concern:

1)      Baseline Concussion testing which was hosted last summer and included Impact testing through DHMC for many local athletes and educational forums to increase awareness and understanding of concussions. Over the past year BE Fit has been providing guidance and testing for back to play protocols post concussion.

2)      ACL Injury and prevention. This was hosted this past September at KUA which included panel talks by Micheal Sparks MD, Peter Loescher MD, Bill Noles ATC and Aimee Burnett PT. In addition BE Fit and members from DHMC PT Department provided a hands on workshop for warm up drills and ACL prevention exercise

The Upper Valley Sports Education Foundation will be continuing to bring further programming to the community. You can contact the foundation at info@UVSEF.com with any questions or areas of interest you would like to see addressed. You will soon be able to visit the newly renovated UVSEF website at www.uvsef.org .

Where have you seen BE Fit?

Youth Sports:

Hanover High - As well as doing rehab with many Upper Valley high school athletes, Be Fit provided additional financial support to the Hanover High soccer programs and helped them with further refining their ACL injury prevention program this fall.
Lightning Soccer - We are continuing to support youth sports by sponsoring Lightning soccer again this year.  We are providing FREE screens to lightning player and CPR training for coaching staff and volunteers as well as providing educational materials in their newsletters.
Ford Sayer Ski Program. Congratulations to them for pulling off a very successful Inaugural golf tournament and BBQ at the Hanover Country Club.  They were able to raise almost $11,000 between the 163 participants and hole sponsorships like BE Fit.

What a great way to celebrate 75 years of Ford Sayre ski programs in the Upper Valley!

The Upper Valley Haven was able to pull off a great Golf event at Baker Hill to supportand we were more than happy to support their great cause given increased need for their services through some rough times for some of our patients and neighbors.

Hanover Country Club- BE Fit was able to sponsor their member guest tournament in August and they allowed us to run some free orthopedic PT screening clinics in the clubhouse through the season.  They gave us the opportunity to connect with weekend warrior golfers with nagging injuries.  It was a great asset to members, and we look forward to working with our neighboring CC again next season!

Advance Transit - Congratulations to A.T. for receiving this years Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce "Business Leadership Award".  We are glad to be a part of their business!

Classified Ad - Yes - BE Fit is hiring a new PT and no, none of our great PTs are leaving.  Thanks to a continually growing referral basis we have recently decided to add more staff therapist. The right individual will be hand picked to have experience in orthopedics and sport specific training.  Best of all it will be a fully licensed PT.  We have not chosen to hire any assistants or aids, because we want to continue to offer the same one on one care you have come to trust.  See a PT everytime you come, and alway have confidence in the care you will recieve at BE Fit!

Remembering Dr. John Kelly
We would like to send our heartfelt regards to those affected by the loss of Dr. Kelly.  He was an active coach for many of our local athletes and a loving father and husband.  He will truly be missed.

Can We Quote You?
We would like to have testimonial statements to share with others.  These submissions can remain anonymous if you prefer.  We would also love to hear about thing you think could be improved.
Send an e-mail to Kylie@BEFit-PT.com.

Best to you and your family through the fall and into the winter seasons!

Sincerely,
