WHY IS THE HD5 PROPANE THRIFTY PROPANE DELIVERS ALWAYS THE PUREST AND ALWAYS THE SAME?
Why is HD5 propane Thrifty Propane delivers always the purest and always the same? First, because the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) set a standard, ASTM 1835, that requires HD5 propane always be no less than 90% chemical propane and no more than 10% of anything else - all the time. Second, federally regulated pipelines, to provide the same service to all of their shippers the regulations require, have to demand that the propane it ships always be the same. The only propane that is always the same is also the purest propane, HD5 propane. Third, Thrifty Propane takes delivery of its propane only from these federally regulated pipelines. This way, the only propane that Thrifty Propane has for you, the customer, is always the purest propane, HD5 propane, 90% propane 100% of the time.
The ASTM Standard 1835 requires that HD5 propane have the same formula: no less than 90% chemical propane and no more than 10% total of anything else. This assures the user, whether an industry or a home owner, that the product in their tank will always be at least 90% chemical propane when it is labeled HD5 propane. This means it will always burn the same, burn the longest and provide the best value.
The pipelines, that run only from West to East, from the salt-domes in Texas to the terminals in the Midwest and Northeast, will only accept HD5 propane, which they test to make sure that it meets the ASTM formula, because the HD5 standard is the only standard that sets out a formula on which the pipeline operators can rely. Since the pipelines are federally regulated, they cannot make special deals with anyone who uses their pipeline, and because they cannot separate each shipper's propane for delivery, they need to treat every user of the pipeline in the same way and deliver the same propane to each shipper, no matter where the propane is that a shipper purchased. Users of the pipeline, called shippers, purchase the propane that is stored in salt-domes in Texas. They often need to take delivery of the propane they have purchased the same day or even the same hour, hundreds or even thousands of miles away, days before the propane stored in Texas can get to their terminal. To solve this problem, the pipeline only accepts for shipment propane that is always the same, so the propane in Texas is the same as in Ohio or New York. The propane that is always the same is also the purest propane, HD5 propane.
Thrifty Propane takes delivery of propane only from these federally regulated pipelines. Thrifty is assured that it is always purchasing and taking delivery of pure HD5 propane, since that is the only kind of propane the pipelines ship to stay within the law. Unlike our competitors we take delivery only on pure HD5 propane, which is olefin-free and has no Agent Orange, unlike oil-refinery gas, which has no formula standards yet, according to the GAO, is half the fuel sold as propane in the United States.

LOOKING TO PROPANE'S FUTURE
The Propane Education and Research Council reported this week that chemical propane (C3H8) may be generated by certain species of algae. If these algae can be coaxed into producing propane in commercial quantity, they will make propane one of the greenest fuels of the future, converting today's sunlight into today's fuel. We look forward to these developments in the hope that the pure HD5 propane that we have to today will become even greener fuel tomorrow. For today, your best value and best safety is pure HD5 propane from Thrifty Propane, it burns longer, burns hotter and is olefin-free. |

BP DISASTER UPDATE
STIFFER STANDARDS FOR GULF DRILLING PERMITS
The fallout from the BP disaster continues not only for residents of the Gulf states and the environment, but for those in the oil business itself. Since the moratorium on drilling permits for Gulf wells was lifted in October, the offshore drilling permits issued have been subject to stiffer safety standards, to the dismay of Louisiana well operators that met with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar last week, reports the "E2 Wire" blog on November 22. They had hoped that regulations would be relaxed, particularly for shallow-water wells, which they claim hold less risk, but no loosening of the present standards is forthcoming. Despite the stiffer standards, drilling continues, with 16 new well permits and 48 revised permits issued. The well operators and Louisiana Sen. Vitter had anticipated news of policy revisions that would return drilling to business-as-usual, but were disappointed when Sec. Salazar and BOERE Dir. Bromwich stuck to the new safety standards.
Thus, the frontline of the oil drilling safety has moved, but the contestants remain the same - well operators wanting to get to the oil, blaming the government for slowing them down because they want it done safely. |
