THE WALMART PROPANE STORY - PART I Why Walmart Can't Get HD5
If the largest propane marketers are up to deceiving Walmart, they are certainly ready to deceive you. We recently heard that Walmart, the retailer with the largest delivery system in the world wanted to save fuel and go "green." The maker of a proven carburetion device, currently in use by many smaller truck fleets, that injects minute quantities of propane into a diesel engine at critical points in the engine cycle, presented its invention to Walmart. The promised results were: 1.) cost savings since the engine would operate with greater efficiency and propane is less costly than diesel fuel, 2.) fuel savings, since the engine would use less of both diesel and propane fuels, and 3.) lower emissions, since the propane injection would combust all of the particles in the diesel fuel, turning almost everything to fuel, so the "dirty" exhaust was almost completely eliminated. Walmart arranged for a test of the system at the Goodyear Proving Ground at Amarillo, TX. Representatives of the maker of the proposed device, representatives of Walmart and the Proving Ground engineers were all present for the test. The propane was supplied by Amerigas. When it was weighed, it was 6.2 lbs./gallon, which meant it was "commercial grade," not HD5, propane. They ran the test. Even with the "commercial grade" propane, the engine burned so clean "you couldn't see the smoke," and its efficiency was greatly improved. Walmart, however, learned that they could get the consistent results they needed, as well as double the fuel savings with HD5 propane. They insisted on a nationwide source for HD5 propane. Heritage Propane (NYSE-ETP/ETE) was approached about HD5 propane. Heritage said they would look into it, and then said it couldn't be done. Walmart, because it could not find a source of HD5 propane, has shelved the program. This program would save money, save fuel and keep greenhouse gasesout the atmosphere. It would be a big, visible step in making Walmart a "green" company. Had Walmart led the way, use of this one technology would save at least 2 million barrels of oil a day in the United States. Yet the propane companies would not let it happen for Walmart, the largest retailer in the United States. If those chiefs of the propane industry won't sell HD5 propane to Walmart, what do you think they sell to you? Coming articles: why the refining industry won't let HD5 propane become the standard fuel for your home heat and cooking and what this means to you; the recognized dangers of "commercial grade" propane and why we know of no other country that lets anything but HD5 be used for home heat and cooking; how the sellers of "commercial grade" propane are making a fortune at your health's expense.

HOW MUCH PROPANE IS IN HD5 PROPANE?
How much propane is in HD5 propane? Thrifty sources its pure HD5 propane from a line that guarantees that only HD5 propane is shipped on that line. ASTM 1835 requires that HD5 propane have no less than 90% propane and no more than 5% propylene. Historically, because the propylene is taken out of propane before it reaches the line, the HD5 propane seldom has any propylene in it. Thus, it often has had more than 95% propane in it, and always has had more than 90%. When Thrifty claimed that its HD5 propane was 95% propane, it based that claim on the average of the line's monthly test results over the course of a year. Because Thrifty can never be sure what next month's test report will say, Thrifty is going to play it safe - and guarantee to you that its HD5 is 90% propane, because that is the guarantee made by the largest pipeline in the country that brings this product from Texas. Thrifty takes full responsibility for any claims that it is has made concerning HD5 and, guaranteeing that its product is at least 90% propane 100% of the time, apologizes for any confusion its claims based on historical test results may have caused.

Tank Dimensions are a Common Question
Thinking of buying a tank from Thrifty Propane? Our customers have asked about the dimension requirements for a tank on their property. In response to your questions, here are some common dimensions: · A 250 gallon tank is 7'5" long and 30" in diameter. · A 330 gallon tank is 10' long and 30" in diameter.
· A 500 gallon tank is 10' long and 37" in diameter.
· A 1000 gallon tank is 16' long and 41" in diameter.
According to the NFPA Pamphlet 58, when setting a 330 gallon or a 500 gallon tank, it needs to be at least 10 feet from any structure.
