Readers: V for Victory Chosen

V for Victory has been chosen as the Preston Reads! book for 2011 by Preston Middle School in Fort Collins. I'm especially honored to be part of this program that gets parents, teachers and students reading together! This book was also recently chosen for the Colorado State University Intergenerational Book Club.
Book Clubs Remember Wake and Dancing in Combat Boots were read in equal numbers by more than a dozen book clubs in 2009 and early 2010. I speak for free to book clubs (in person or via phone or virtual visit) and it's one of my favorite things to do. So if you're looking for a summer or fall selection for your book group, please let me know. You can even purchase your books from me at a 20% book club discount. More info on book clubs

Writer Tip
Summer Reading for Writers
If you're selecting your summer reading, why not put a few great books for writers on your reading list. Click here to see a list of my favorite books on writing (broken down by genre) and watch for my favorite books on revision and publishing in a later newsletter. In the fall, I hope to also offer a publishing tip each month, as well as some tips geared around specific elements of good writing. We'll start out with a discussion on
writing solid dialogue.
Please keep an eye on the News and Events column for upcoming writing workshops, including my all-day That Book Inside You Workshop.I'll be doing more of those, as well as individual workshops on the elements of writing and publishing in the fall. |

Marbles was a common game that children played with their friends in the 1940s. There are many ways to play the game and lots of different rules for marbles.Click Here to find out how to play marbles.
info found on landofmarbles.com
Marbles Done Our Way:
Create your own Marble Game. o What are the rules of your game? o What is needed in order to play? (How many marbles, etc.) o How many people can play? o Name your marble game.
o Draw a diagram of the game being played?
Now, have fun and play your new game with a friend or send your game to me and I'll post it on the Students page on my website.

Summer is a time to relax and rejuvenate. Did you know there are lots of national teaching conferences that take place over the summer?
Click here to see a list of conferences for each subject.
I encourage you to get in contact with your state's Education Association, and attend their conference as well.
Here are the links for my Colorado followers and Idaho Followers.
As I do with book clubs, I am also available to speak to homeschool groups or organizations in person or via phone or virtual visit. This can be a fun summer diversion from regular studies!

Torch Club Event
In May, I spoke at the statewide Torch Club Event for the Boys and Girls Club. Thanks to our generous sponsors, I was able to provide a free copy of a Home-Front Heroes book to each of the 125 kids who attended. A few avid readers hung around to see if I'd have extras at the end of the night so they could get more than one title. I was able to send those kids home with two books! I must give kudos to the children. Even though it was late on a Friday night and they were excited for their massive sleepover AND many of them were already in their pajamas, they were great listeners and participants in my talks! |
That Book Inside You Workshop
Back by Popular Demand: Saturday, June 19 or Saturday, August 7.

Summer Reading and Writing Program I'm excited to be partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County, the Northside Aztlan Community Center and the Poudre School District to provide a fun and unique summer reading/writing program. If you're a member of the general public in the Fort Collins area and would like to take part in this program, sign up at Old Firehouse Bookstore or Reader's Cove Bookstore. The activities are fun and easy, and by completing only one activity, you are entered to win great prizes, including an iPod Grand Prize, iTunes gift cards and much more. If your group would like to bring this program to your area next summer, contact me at tfcinfo@teresafunke.com. |
