First Baptist Snellville: Where Caring Happens...                                       January 15, 2012
Joe Lewis

In the Bible, the Book of 2 Corinthians 5:19 -20 makes it clear that God's purpose in sending Jesus was to reconcile the world to Himself and that we are to join Him in His mission as His ambassadors. God's motivation in sending Jesus was love and we are to share Jesus with others, because His love compels us.

Luke 15:1-32; 1 Timothy 2:4; and 2 Pet. 3:9 all testify that God's heart is one that desires for all men to be saved and rejoices when even one person is found in Him. Based upon John 17:25-26, we reflect His heart to the world around us when we join Him in His mission.

God's commission is for His people to be witnesses, making disciples of all nations. (Acts 1:8; Matt. 28:19-20). We are to obey His command to evangelize the world around us because we love Him (1 John 5:3-4).

Wake Up Weekend, an FBC student ministry annual event for 7th thru 12th grade students will take place February 17-19, 2012. This year's focus will be upon evangelism. Students will be taught the importance of reaching unbelievers, the role of the Holy Spirit in evangelism, how to overcome their personal inhibitions and much more, by the guest speaker and evangelism trainer William Johnson. This fun and dynamic event is designed to bring students out of their comfort zone and to follow through in obedience to share the Good News to their family, friends, neighbors, classmates, co-workers, etc...

During this Wake Up Weekend students will spend part of their time on campus, in different host homes based upon gender and grade, and off campus ministering to their community through service projects and sharing the Gospel. Students will leave the weekend knowing that sharing the Gospel is not optional for Christians, but is commanded by Jesus Christ.

Another event being presented by CRAVE Student Ministry for the first time is "AMPLIFY'. This is an event intended for 5th and 6th grade students in March of 2012 that will focus upon the persons of the trinity. The guest speaker will help students understand the roles of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. This one day event will be full of worship with a guest worship artist, loads of fun activities and prizes. This highly energized event is specifically designed for 5th and 6th grade students and will incorporate various methods that are intended to meet them right where they are.

Each of these events will take students further in their understanding of God's Word and provide a springboard to grow in their spiritual formation.

To register or find out more about this event, please visit the student ministry website through the church website or go directly to www.getyourcraveon.com. Also, feel free to contact Whitney Hollingsworth at 770-978-5711.

First Light is a Christian weekday program where children (babies through kindergarten) can have their FIRST experiences of Jesus Christ, the LIGHT of the World, as they build a solid spiritual and educational foundation.

We provide a hands-on learning environment where the child develops age-appropriate social skills and experiences success, thus promoting happiness and self-confidence.  Our curriculum is strong and inspires a desire and excitement to learn and also spurs creativity.  Our goal is also to provide a spiritual foundation through sharing, songs, and teaching about God, Jesus, and the Bible.

We offer several unique after-school programs for preschoolers, Tuesday-Friday, consisting of Ballet, Little Champs Sports, and music classes.

We encourage you to visit us and tour our campus or you may call our office at 770-978-5732 for additional information.

Featuring The Burchfield Brothers!

"When words alone cannot describe the passion, the heart or the love of Christ, music becomes an expression of that love"

Their concerts are a combination of music, storytelling and comedy as each plays off the other in a way that's entertaining and captivating. An evening with The Burchfields (two brothers who play nice together) can be described as Reaching the Ages. Prime timers love the music they recognize, while young people are inspired by the arrangements and intrigued with the instrumentation.

"Their excellence honors God and inspires people."

2012 Mission Trips

Missions 2012

Internationally, we will be returning to Nicaragua during Spring Break 2012 to continue working in the village of El Bongo, where our church has invested heavily over the last two years. Registration for this trip is closed, as we have 24 team members already committed! This will be our largest group to Nicaragua thus far. Plans are being made to start a new work in a village in Haiti next summer, where no church currently exists. I am also very excited to announce that we plan to take a team across the Atlantic to Benin, Africa, to help an existing church with evangelistic crusades and medical ministry. Registration information about the Haiti and Benin trips will be released in the coming months.

I hope that every Christian reading this message will commit to being involved in missions either locally or globally. For more information about any of these mission opportunities please contact me at thyatt@fbcsnell.org  or my assistant, Teresa Williamson at twilliamson@fbcsnell.org, or you may call the Outreach & Missions office at 770-978-5723.

First Light Preschool Ministry - Faith Learning, First Light Style!

First Light Preschool

The Preschool Ministry at First Baptist Snellville has the awesome opportunity to be the first in laying a spiritual foundation for our little ones -the love of Jesus shared through teachers with a heart for young children and a passion to teach and connect them to Jesus Christ and His story.

Having served in the Preschool Ministry for almost twenty years, I have had the tremendous blessing of seeing many children here come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. What a heartwarming experience it has been for me to see these changed lives, year after year!

With children from the infant stage all the way through to kindergarten, we have quite a challenging spectrum in teaching strategies for Sunday mornings, especially. First Light Preschool Ministry is all about providing a proper scope and sequence of curriculum that lays an age appropriate understanding of Bible thoughts, Bible stories and scriptural memorization to begin a spiritual breakthrough - a starting point for these children to begin a walk of faith.

We want to be a ministry where the parents know we are there to walk alongside them and minister to them and their child every step of the way.

First Light Preschool Ministry is a place where preschoolers can have their first experiences of the love of Jesus Christ, the Light of the World. We invite you and your preschooler to come build new relationships, make life-long friends and connect with our loving and caring church family!

Come join us for fun, friendship and learning that will build a solid spiritual foundation in your preschooler - Faith Learning, First Light style!

"Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me, but Him who sent Me." (Mark 9:37)

Serving Him joyfully,

Sheila Ridgeway

Director of Preschool Ministries

Heaven Sent - Home-Bound Ministry

Heaven Senthome-bound

"...inasmuch as you did it to one of the least

of these my brethren; you have done it unto Me."

-Matthew 25:40

Many home-bound seniors have been lifelong members of FBCS and served our Lord faithfully for years.  If it were possible, they would love to be with their church family.

The Heaven Sent Ministry provides an opportunity to minister to these by loving and giving back to them as they have given to others throughout their lives.

Our ministry is designed to touch member's lives with the love, comfort and compassion of Jesus Christ.  As volunteers, we will seek to encourage and enhance their lives while acting as a bridge to connect them to their church family and its ministries.

Who qualifies as a Heaven Sent member?

Members of First Baptist Snellville who cannot regularly attend Bible study and worship.  They may reside in their private homes, retirement communities consisting of assisted and independent living facilities, nursing homes or personal care homes.

Individuals may be adults who are:

  • Physically handicapped,
  • Dealing with declining health
  • Unable to drive any longer
  • Have recently had surgery and are recovering at home
  • Caretakers of those listed above

What can I do?

Do you know of anyone that would enjoy a visit once a month, cards and phone calls?

Would you be interested in becoming a volunteer for the Heaven Sent Ministry?
