First Baptist Snellville: Where Caring Happens...                         November 1, 2011
Michelle Hood
I love the fall. I love the color of the leaves and watching them float to the ground. Over the course of a few weeks all the leaves will fall off the trees. It makes me think about my children. It seems like just yesterday they were born. Now, they are in high school and will be moving on to the next chapter of their lives. Often I reflect, wondering if I've made the best use of the time in which God has entrusted my children to me.

Let's put this into perspective. From the time your children are born until they graduate from high school, they are in your home roughly 940 weekends. When your child is in kindergarten you have 636 weeks remaining. By the time they finish the 4th grade and leave the Children's Ministry you have 364 weeks left. It seems that time goes by as quickly as the leaves fall from the trees. It says in James 4, that life is like a vapor that appears for a while and vanishes.

We should not be saddened, but motivated by the sense of urgency to focus on the time we have been granted with our children. Our mission in the Children's Ministry is to invest in the lives of children and families, bridging them to our community through service, connecting them to Christ and equipping them to develop a life story of Christian faith and Godly character. To accomplish this, we seek to assist you in taking advantage of the time you have and invest that time in directing your children toward Christ.

The Children's Ministry provides first through fourth graders the opportunity and resources to worship God, love Him and His word, and to serve Him by serving others. I am thankful God has given us the opportunity to partner with parents. We are called to do all we can to ensure every week is meaningful in connecting families and children to Jesus Christ.

In late August, we rolled out "The Great Family Experiment". This was a resource we provided families to intentionally bring them together for quality time. We have received numerous testimonies and even pictures from First Baptist Families sharing the time their families enjoyed together.

The Children's Ministry has several opportunities to serve together as a family. "Back Pack Buddies", a new outreach program, provides deserving children supplemental food for the weekends. While grocery shopping with your family, purchase a few items and pray together for the children that will receive the food. The Children's Bible Study classes will be decorating small Christmas trees. Families are invited to "adopt" a tree to deliver to a homebound church member. This is a small sacrifice of time to deliver the tree and brighten the day of someone who wouldn't have a tree otherwise. Intentionally finding ways to be the hands and feet of Christ is a great investment of time and a wonderful habit to encourage! Deuteronomy 6:4-9 gives us the instruction to impress upon, communicate and direct our children to "love the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our strength."

Just as the leaves of the season are different so are we! No two families are exactly the same. Each has its own uniqueness and "flare". Pray and envision the plan God has for your children, your family and move intentionally in that direction. Intentions without actions won't change the world for Christ. To be the hands and feet of Christ, you must choose a direction and move. Don't leave your family to chance! You may be a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, neighbor, or teacher. Whatever your role, always hold in close regard the impact you have on the children in your life! They admire, they mirror and they trust and easily love others. What a wonderful opportunity to make a difference for eternity.

First Light Weekday Preschool
FLWP_Logo

First Light is a Christian weekday program where children (babies through kindergarten) can have their FIRST experiences of Jesus Christ, the LIGHT of the World, as they build a solid spiritual and educational foundation.

We provide a hands-on learning environment where the child develops age-appropriate social skills and experiences success, thus promoting happiness and self-confidence.  Our curriculum is strong and inspires a desire and excitement to learn and also spurs creativity.  Our goal is also to provide a spiritual foundation through sharing, songs, and teaching about God, Jesus, and the Bible.

FLWP Classroom

We offer several unique after-school programs for preschoolers, Tuesday-Friday, consisting of Ballet, Little Champs Sports, and music classes.

We are still accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year.  We encourage you to visit us and tour our campus or you may call our office at 770-978-5732 for additional information.

2012 Mission Trips

Missions 2012

Internationally, we will be returning to Nicaragua during Spring Break 2012 to continue working in the village of El Bongo, where our church has invested heavily over the last two years. Registration for this trip is closed, as we have 24 team members already committed! This will be our largest group to Nicaragua thus far. Plans are being made to start a new work in a village in Haiti next summer, where no church currently exists. I am also very excited to announce that we plan to take a team across the Atlantic to Benin, Africa, to help an existing church with evangelistic crusades and medical ministry. Registration information about the Haiti and Benin trips will be released in the coming months.

I hope that every Christian reading this message will commit to being involved in missions either locally or globally. For more information about any of these mission opportunities please contact me at thyatt@fbcsnell.org  or my assistant, Teresa Williamson at twilliamson@fbcsnell.org, or you may call the Outreach & Missions office at 770-978-5723.
