First Baptist Snellville: Where Caring Happens...
Michelle Hood
What an incredible time we had at VBS Boot Camp! Children discovered ways to arm themselves for battle through growing in their strength in the Lord and His mighty power. We were blessed with an average of 768 children on our campus every day.  Eighty eight children made a decision in their relationship with Christ during that week.  What a powerful way to show God's love to our community- planting many seeds for the future!  With a new visitation process in place we were effective in following up with over 70 visits during the week of VBS - each receiving a personal visit from our church!  A big Thanks to all that participated -many hands played a vital roll in accomplishing our mission of connecting children to Jesus Christ and His story.

Marching on, we are looking forward to Infinity Sports Camp July 11th -15th for children completed grades 1-4th.  Along with Bible study, worship, football, baseball, soccer and much more this year, we are adding cheerleading and dance! We will learn what the Bible says about being a good sport through S-Self Control, P-Perseverance, O-Obedience, R-Relationships, and T-Trust.  We will enjoy a fun; active, Christ-filled week at camp. There is still time to register! Limited scholarships are available- please call the Children's Ministry at 770-978-5717 for further information.

Get ready, Get set- Go!  Awana is on the move and we will enjoy a fun- packed registration kick off event on August 10th- with inflatables, games, and food. Gather your friends and join the fun. We'll be looking for you!

As the school year approaches, we have incredible momentum to connect new children and families to Jesus Christ.  Did you know that many children in our community only receive adequate nutrition when they are at school? Leaving them hungry on the weekends and when school is not in session.  We are rolling out a backpack program to supply children in our community food items to sustain them for the weekends once school begins.  We are looking to assist 35 students who have been identified as being in need of food during the weekends.  Please partner with the Youth and Children's Ministries in this effort to be the hands and feet of Christ to these deserving children. Please look for a food list, bags, and donation boxes soon.  This will be an ongoing project. The food items listed will be needed throughout the year.  Start couponing and looking for sale items!  For more information on this project please contact the Children's Ministry.

Spread the word! Tell your friends about the exciting things going on here at FBCS and invite them to check out the Children's Ministry!  We are always looking for others to serve along-side us in ministering to children and their families.   Is now your time to partner with us in connecting others to Him?  Contact us for more information on the many opportunities to serve!

July 3rd - American Celebration
American Celebration 2011

Sunday, July 3rd

Car Show: 3pm - 6pm

Music, Games, Inflatables, Fireworks, Food Vendors: 5pm - Dark

The American Celebration hosted by Snellville First Baptist has been a wonderful gift to the community since the early 1990's.  It began as an outdoor celebration featuring the Celebration Choir and Orchestra and special guest artists presenting musical performances followed by a tremendous fireworks display.  In these early days the celebration was known as the I Love America Celebration.  Recently the celebration known as The American Celebration has continued to be a great event for the community featuring inflatable rides and games for the children and fun games for adults as well.  Food vendors like The Varsity, Uncle Betty's, PaPa John's, the Lion's Club and many others have provided terrific food for the crowds in years past.   Of course every year's celebration is always followed by an incredible fireworks show

This year First Baptist Snellville's American Celebration will be on Sunday July 3rd beginning at 5pm.  There will be free inflatable rides and many games for the children.  Food vendors like those in years past and several others will be there to provide delicious food.  Many other games and activities will be enjoyed by all ages.  At the same time on the Snellville Town Green, the City of Snellville will be hosting the Star Spangled Snellville Celebration.  A variety of music artists from the community and the Celebration Orchestra will be featured on the Main Stage on the Green.   Please come out on the afternoon of July 3rd and enjoy these wonderful celebrations as we all celebrate the freedoms we experience in this wonderful country in which we live.  Some of our finest Snellville Police officers will be on site at both celebrations and will assist pedestrians across Hwy. 78.

An event of this size requires lots of volunteers to make it a success.  There are many areas you can help with.  If you would like to help, please contact the church at 770-978-7000.

100 Greeters In 100 Days

100Greeters

The average guest forms an opinion about our church in the first 10-12 minutes after arriving on our campus. The ministry of our Greeters plays a vital role in making people feel welcome, and also helping them to find their way around our large facility. We are asking God to raise up 100 new greeters in the next hundred days. We are blessed to have our current greeters, but we need more help in showing hospitality to our guests. I encourage you to pray about being a Greeter. We need both men and women. The ideal is to serve weekly, but we can use people who can serve twice a month and even once a month.

Spotlight on Sunday School
WatchItComeAliveIn each newsletter over the next few months I'm going to be highlighting the Adult Sunday School classes we have here at First Baptist. Sunday School is our strategy to help you connect with God, connect with other class members and connect with the community.  So basically, it is a time of Bible Study, Prayer, Fellowship and Mission opportunities.  Statistics tell us that you are more likely to be involved in the life of the church and stay connected if you are a part of a Sunday School Class.  Our Adult Sunday School meets at 3 hours:  8 a.m.; 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday Mornings.  I would like to highlight three classes for you :

8:00

A.C. Coleman leads a Co-Ed ( 50's and 60's)  Adult Sunday School Class that meets in room E100.  A.C. accepted Christ as his Savior on May 22, 1972.  He enjoys Suduku puzzles and watching the Georgia Bulldogs. His class is currently studying the book of Philippians.

9:30

Bruce Ayscue teaches a Co-Ed ( 60+)  Adult Sunday School Class that meets in the Chapel.. Bruce accepted Christ as his Savior when he was 12 years old. He enjoys singing in Men of Praise, doing crossword puzzles and studying Scripture and commentaries.  His class is currently studying the book of Mark and they are very active in planning fellowships and mission opportunities.

11:00

Larry Segars teaches a Co-Ed (40's to 50's) Adult Sunday School class that meets in room E110.  Larry accepted Christ as his Savior 41 years ago and enjoys spending time with his 11 grandchildren. His class has been studying through the book of Ezra.  They have a fellowship lunch once a month and will be meeting together for the fireworks at the upcoming American Celebration.  One of their mission projects is to be a part of the breakfast ministry for the Bus Ministry on Sunday Mornings.

These are only 3 of 32 Adult Sunday School classes that we have at First Baptist.  To see a list of all of our Adult Classes, their meeting times and locations, please click here.

See you in Sunday School!
