First Baptist Snellville: Where Caring Happens...
|

Hello
Church Family: My wife, Megan, and I have been so blessed to become a part
of your family over the last year and half. We are so thankful for your kindness toward us. As an associate student pastor, I have the
joy of leading two very exciting ministries at First Baptist that you may not
know much about if you have not been directly involved.
Route 56 is our ministry to preteen students (grades 5 and
6). Route 56 serves as a transition from
children's ministry to student ministry by specifically addressing the
spiritual needs of fifth and sixth graders. Every Sunday morning at 9:30 our wonderful team of teaching volunteers
meets with over 60 preteens for an exciting hour of fellowship and teaching. On Wednesday nights, many 5th and
6th grade students are actively involved in Awana, or attending
Crave, our midweek service for preteens that meets in A-300 at 6:30 each
Wednesday. At Crave, our students are
encouraged to grow in their relationship with God through worship, large group
teaching, and small group discussion. Soul Group for preteens meets in the FCC during the Sunday evening
service. Soul Group starts with a time
of fun, food, and fellowship, and ends with a time of teaching, prayer, and
spiritual encouragement. Students will
leave Soul Group challenged to deepen their walk with Christ. During the month of October, our preteens
will be participating in local missions by gathering donations for Streetwise
Ministries of Gwinnett.
You may have noticed the presence of more college-age people
active in our church lately. Across the
country, this demographic feels neglected and out-of-place at church. They graduate high school, and they aren't in
the youth group anymore, nor do they feel like attending bible study with
married adults or older singles. I am so
happy to be in a church that values college-age people and is determined to
minister to them as they transition to adulthood. About a year ago, our college bible study had
anywhere from 1 to 5 students in attendance on an average Sunday. Our church took initiative to meet the needs
of this group, and we took 16 on a retreat to Gatlinburg this summer. Also, this summer their bible study
attendance was about 35-40 each week. And now that school has started, even with so many on college campuses
across Georgia
and in neighboring states, 15-25 students can be found in Mike Williamson's
college-age bible study every Sunday at 9:30. You will also see these young people at the Sunday evening service,
Tuesday night outreach, and serving in other ministries on Wednesday nights.
I want to thank you, First Baptist Snellville, for
supporting these two very special ministries in our church. Grace and Peace,
Todd Hyatt Associate Minister of Students thyatt@fbcsnell.org |
