The Aha! Connection had a 2013 planning session/girls weekend at Serenbe last weekend.   Audra and Leigh loved it so much that we wanted to make sure you know about this Utopia that is basically 55 minutes from Dunwoody!

I'll include some excerpts from a great article about Serenbe below but I'll give you the lowdown on what I know from my perspective.

The founders of Serenbe are Marie and Steve Nygren.   Marie is the daughter of Merry Mac's Tea room's former owner Margaret Lupo.  Steve was one of the founders of the Peasant Restaurant Group (remember Mick's, Daily's, The Pleasant Peasant etc).  Basically they moved their three young daughters to the countryside south of Atlanta near Palmetto when the kids were young and the rest is history.

Leigh and I met Marie and she was delightful.   We ate at Marie's  Farmhouse Restaurant and former 103 West Excecutive Chef's restaurant, The Hil and I don't remember better meals!  The fried chicken and braised okra were fab-u-lous!  We also ate at The Blue Eyed Daisy which happens to be a proud "Cupcake Wars" winner!   The cupcakes were delish!

Pictures speak louder than words so I'll include a few pictures below from their website.    I can't wait to take my family back.   It is such a darling community!

Serenbe has drawn national attention as an example of New Urbanism in the South. With its organic farm and land-use plan that encourages conservation of agricultural land, Serenbe is at the same time an example of Development Supported Agriculture, a nascent movement in real estate development that preserves and invests in agricultural land use. The village is also noted as a destination for visitors seeking to experience its New Urbanist design, its natural setting and its farm-to-table restaurants, shopping and accommodations.
