Dear Parents,
The Mark Twain community has just completed an event filled week that included a fantastic The Magic in Books, Book Fair and ending with the Kids Meal Community Service Project and Soccer Tournament. We welcomed the Book Fair back to Mark Twain after several years of being offsite. It was a special time with children milling about in the racks of books, marching in the Storybook Parade and sharing hotdogs and magic at Family Night. It was a grand success and a special thank you goes out to Blythe Grossman and Margie Sanders for pulling it all together! These ladies were up at school all day, every day to ensure that all of the students would get the chance to browse and purchase books.
This past weekend I was inspired by the many children and families participating in the Kids Meals Community Service Project. We had many students decorating bags and filling those bags with food items to be delivered to pre-kindergarten age students in our area. It was so much fun and the positive energy was contagious. Thanks to Alva Allen for coordinating such a great event and to all of you that donated items or participated in the project on Saturday.
Saturday also brought many of our students out to show their skills at the Annual Soccer Tournament. The tournament was held on the playground and the students had a blast! Thanks to Lily McKean for planning this fun event and to all the parents that volunteered their time to make it a great success.
December is right around the corner so please mark your calendars for the following events.
- November 23-25: Thanksgiving Break
- December 5-9:Stanford Testing - Kindergarten
- Tuesday, December 6: PTO Meeting at 6:30pm in library.
- Thursday, December 8: The Fourth Grade Classes will present the Broadway Jr. Musical Annie
- Monday, December 12: Holiday Strings Concert in cafeteria. Beginning at 3pm. See schedule in the related article in the Twain Times.
- Friday, December 16: FIELD DAY and last day of school. All students dismissed at 3 pm.
- Tuesday, January 3: School Resumes.
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

| PTO President Message | |
Dear Mark Twain families,
Happy Thanksgiving! As we enter into this holiday weekend, I am reminded of the quote "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."
On behalf of the PTO, I would like to thank the administration, teachers and staff at Mark Twain for all that you do on a daily basis for our children. I am extremely grateful for your dedication to your jobs and our school. I would also like to thank all the Mark Twain families who support their teachers and the Mark Twain administration. As we all know, when parents and teachers build partnerships and work together, the student benefits. This partnership and collaboration is truly what makes Mark Twain so special.
I want to extend a special "thank you" to Blythe Grossman and Margie Sanders for a tremendously successful Mark Twain Book Fair last week. Our children were engrossed in "book talk" all last week and it was wonderful to see! It was an event that inspired all of our students to have "hands on" experiences with new books and an overwhelming love of literature was prevalent throughout the school.
Another huge round of applause should be directed to Alva Allen who coordinated the "Kids Meals" Community Service Project. The Mark Twain Community was able to contribute over 650 prepared lunches ready to be delivered to impoverished children in Houston and donated funds that should provide lunches for at least 650 more. It was a sincere pleasure to see all the children working at the school last Saturday to help those in need. We are incredibly blessed to be part of such a caring community.
Enjoy your loved ones and the long weekend. And may your family have a holiday full of bountiful blessings.
Best,
Deanna Sheaffer, PTO President

You can start now and visit americanheart.org/jump to set up a Web page and e-mail friends/family to make secure donations. Or use the collection envelope your child will receive. Whether or not you and your children decide to participate in the fundraising portion of this "event," all students will have the chance to participate in jump rope activities during Physical Education class at the end of our Jump Rope for Heart campaign.
Special Notes:

*Our school will also earn free physical education equipment.

| Drink Pouch Brigade®! | |
Turn your used drink pouches into MONEY for our School. We have placed a drink pouch recycle bin in the cafeteria by the lost and found closet. Besides turning the pouches into money for the school TerraCycle, Capri Sun® and Honest Kids® are working together to put an end to this awful loss of resources. As an eco-friendly innovator, TerraCycle converts the drink pouch material into unique from tote bags and pencil cases to plastic lumber and pavers! TerraCycle is proud to team up with the largest producer of drink pouches in the country, Capri Sun, and a young organic entry into the market, Honest Kids, to help address this problem! Together with your help we CAN make a difference! For information, contact Liliana McKean at lmckean1@comcast.net.
