Church of the Incarnation Sunday Announcements
November 6, 2011

We are saddened to announce the death of Victoria "Honey" Saffelle Johnson Brown, who passed away on Oct 29th.  Victoria was baptized in our church in 1924 and spent her childhood in our parish. For many years she lived in Geneva, Switzerland with her sister, Ruthalma, before they recently returned home to Santa Rosa. A service will be held for her here at the Church on November 19th at 3:00 pm.

Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant Victoria. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive her into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.

cornucopiaCornucopia Sunday! The Outreach Commission is pleased to announce that November 13th is Cornucopia Sunday.  The Commission keeps hearing about so many unmet basic needs of the people being served by our various outreach groups, The Living Room, St. Andrews Mission and Open Table, so we decided to have a Cornucopia Sunday. The Commission is gathering up all of the requests from the different groups (such as toothpaste, socks, razors, and diapers), and putting down one item per slip of paper.  Please grab a request slip, or 10 or more (!!!), from the basket in Farlander, shop for the requested items, and bring them back to Incarnation on Sunday, November 13th.  Please leave the items at the front of the altar, where they will be blessed by Father Matt. The cornucopia is a symbol of abundance and nourishment, and we hope that the altar will be over-flowing with gifts that symbolize God's love, support, and nourishment.

Sharing the Wisdom of the Enneagram

Saturday February 4th, 2012

The Bishop's Ranch, Healdsburg, CA

Fee: $105 per person, including lunch

The Enneagram Workshop led by Bill Glenn, MA, MDiv, will focus on explicating the wisdom of this spiritual and psychological system to those interested in further developing their awareness of the graced complexity of human nature and human relationship. Bill will provide an overview of the Enneagram, a thorough explanation of the nine strategies, or types, each strategy's relationship to its complements (the wings), and the interwoven relationship of all nine types into a whole. Using anecdotes, illustrations from contemporary culture, both sacred and profane, with a generous dollop of humor, and some interactive work to boot, beginners will find the workshop both accessible and informative, and those already steeped in the Enneagram will find it an opportunity to deepen insight into its ongoing wisdom. Hopefully all will find it an aide in the development of a psychologically astute spiritual life. Leader: William D. Glenn MA, MDiv is a licensed psychotherapist and spiritual director practicing in Sonoma County. He was introduced to the Enneagram in 1978, and has worked with its intuitive principles both in his clinical and spiritual practice and as a workshop leader for over thirty years. A former Jesuit, Bill has worked extensively in schools, in health care, and in prisons. He has lectured extensively, and has been published in several magazines and anthologies.

Words to Ponder:

Parishioner Victoria Brown, who passed away on October 29th, wrote the poem below. We thought it especially fitting to use it for the "Words to Ponder" section this week. It was written using her maiden name, Johnson.

They Healed The Sick

They healed the sick in Jesus' name,

John, Peter, James, and Paul:

Apostles whom our Savior sent

To bring His life to all.

Now clergy in God's Christian church,

Who work on earth today,

With holy oil anoint the sick,

And for each one they pray.

I too have work to do for God

Blessed by Christ's power and grace;

I pray for those for whom Christ died,

In every time and place.

-Victoria Safelle Johnson
