We're gonna do church old-school style next week, with the jazz ensemble returning and this time armed with a lead singer and a whole bunch of familiar hymns. Help us celebrate 4th of July in style - July 3rd at the 10 o'clock service.

Small Groups News

Small Groups span a wide area of interest. We offer Care + Support groups, Study + Reflection groups, Topics + Interest groups, and Prayer + Contemplative groups. To learn more about each one go to our website and explore the possibilities! If you have an desire to form a small group, I would love to hear from you. You can call me (Mitch Garcia) at 703-4162 or email me at smallgroups@incarnation-sr.org.

The Philosophy Group meets this Thursday at 7pm in the library. Come check out the philosophy reading and discussion group.  Philosophy is traditionally defined as the love of wisdom, but the most famous philosopher of antiquity (Socrates) claimed to know nothing at all.  In the same spirit, Proverbs 3:5 warns that human understanding may not be so firm as we believe it to be.  Philosophy studies matters are elusive,  yet there is something satisfying about the activity of exploring itself.  Join a group where you can explore the limits of your understanding and look deeper into questions about knowledge, truth, justice, being and ethics.  We will read texts as a group and come together to ask questions and discuss them in a spirit of openness and inquiry.

Growing Together! A Place for Families is a new small group. Our summer calendar is up on our website. Go here to check out our schedule, http://incarnation-sr.org/small-groups-at-church-ofthe-incarnation/growing.php. We look forward to seeing you at our events!

Your Animal Ministry Group is looking for people to help with either an Animal Ministry Adoption Fair with Sonoma Humane Society  or Animal Ministry Parishioner visits. If you would like to help you can contact either Lauren Read or Eileen Harrington by emailing them at animalm@incarnation-sr.org or you can call 703-4162.

Calling All Ministry Leaders! Our website is filled with information about our church and about the many ministries here at Incarnation. Some of that information may be outdated or possibly just plain wrong. I need your help and ask that you go to our website and locate the ministry you are involved with as a leader and please check to see if the information is correct. If your ministry is not on our website, then I need to know as soon as possible so I can add that information to our site. I thank you all in advance for your help and you can contact me at smallgroups@incarnation-sr.org to send along any changes or updates.

WE ARE ALL HEALERSis a workshop led by the Rev. Dr. Francis Geddes and the Rev. Brian Cochran. The workshop introduces the contemplative dimensions of healing prayer. Participants learn about ten different spiritual exercises drawn from Christian, Jewish, Eastern, and Native American traditions. These exercises enable  one to work with inner imagery that serves as a bridge between the ill person, the healer, and Christ. The training is held in a private home in Oakmont, for three Saturdays, July 9, 16, & 23; 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Fee is $119, that includes the three sessions. Some scholarships are available. Limited to 12 participants, please register early. Deadline for registration is July 7th. Please see the forms on the long table in Farlander Hall. Call Francis at 579-6726 for further information or email Francis.Geddes@Stanfordalumni.org. Dr. Geddes is author of Contemplative Healing: The Congregation as Healing Community.

There's great conversation going onabout the "Spirit Mass" Pentecost service last Sunday.   Some very interesting responses have come to us through the survey forms.  Our "Summer Symposium," held each Sunday between the 2 services, will be the place where we look at some of the responses to the service and use them as teaching points regarding both our ancient practices and our contemporary  experiments. Fr. Matt's hope is that, together, we can develop a shared vision of where we're headed as a worshiping congregation.

During times of change, the very best thing we can do is to bring our open hearts to discussions of our history and values, and to how we can apply lessons from the past to make the right decisions for the present moment.  Please be sure to join us!

Required Training: It is an ancient, sacred and essential purpose of the church to protect its most vulnerable members.  Today, this includes the training of all of our members in the prevention of sexual exploitation or abuse.  For this reason, we take seriously the Diocese's mandate that we conduct this training for all clergy, vestry members, and persons with pastoral relationships.  This includes EfM leaders, Sunday School teachers, Eucharistic Visitors, and Worship Leaders.

We will conduct this training at Incarnation on Saturday, July 9, 2011, 9-4.  This is a mandatory training for all persons listed above who have not completed the training in the last 3 years.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided.  Please mark your calendars now!   And please rsvp to Fr. Matt: revml@sonic.netor 579-2604 x102.

"If you are interested in becoming a Eucharistic Visitor, or are currently servingas one, you are asked to attend a mandatory training session on July 16 at the church.  Please see your bulletin for more information."Eucharistic Visitors training to be held July 16! All Eucharistic Visitors, whether currently licensed or wishing to be licensed, are required to attend annual trainings.  We will have a short two-hour training on July 16, 10-12 in Short Hall.   Please rsvp to Fr. Matt: revml@sonic.net or 579-2604 x102.
