Church of the Incarnation Sunday Announcements
June 19, 2011

There's great conversation going on about the "Spirit Mass" Pentecost service last Sunday.   Some very interesting responses have come to us through the survey forms.  Our "Summer Symposium," held each Sunday between the 2 services, will be the place where we look at some of the responses to the service and use them as teaching points regarding both our ancient practices and our contemporary  experiments. Fr. Matt's hope is that, together, we can develop a shared vision of where we're headed as a worshiping congregation.

During times of change, the very best thing we can do is to bring our open hearts to discussions of our history and values, and to how we can apply lessons from the past to make the right decisions for the present moment.  Please be sure to join us!

If you are interested in becoming a Eucharistic Visitor, or are currently serving as one, you are asked to attend a mandatory training session on July 16 at the church.  Please see your bulletin for more information."Eucharistic Visitors training to be held July 16! All Eucharistic Visitors, whether currently licensed or wishing to be licensed, are required to attend annual trainings.  We will have a short two-hour training on July 16, 10-12 in Short Hall.   Please rsvp to Fr. Matt: revml@sonic.net or 579-2604 x102.

Required Training: It is an ancient, sacred and essential purpose of the church to protect its most vulnerable members.  Today, this includes the training of all of our members in the prevention of sexual exploitation or abuse.  For this reason, we take seriously the Diocese's mandate that we conduct this training for all clergy, vestry members, and persons with pastoral relationships.  This includes EfM leaders, Sunday School teachers, Eucharistic Visitors, and Worship Leaders.

We will conduct this training at Incarnation on Saturday, July 9, 2011, 9-4.  This is a mandatory training for all persons listed above who have not completed the training in the last 3 years.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided.  Please mark your calendars now!   And please rsvp to Fr. Matt: revml@sonic.netor 579-2604 x102.

The 2011 Summer Symposium

"Understanding Our Liturgy"

Sundays: June 19 through July 24, 9:00 - 9:45 am

The better we understand our liturgy, the more meaningful our worship becomes. This summer, Fr. Matt will lead a discussion each Sunday between the 8 and 10 am services on the history, theory, and practice of our worship. Participants will be invited to bring their questions and explore their own likes and dislikes, while we learn about the cultural and theological influences on our worship. Please join us for a fun and fascinating conversation!

The Evening Women's Group will meet on Tuesday, June 21st at 7 pm at the home of Marti Kennedy. All women are welcome to join us. We are a supportive group providing a place to share our lives and our spiritual journeys with each other, building friendships as we go. If you have any questions, please contact Donna Wiuff at 837-8768.

The Animal Ministry needs your help. Some of the members of your Animal Ministry Small Group are helping the Sonoma Humane Society with dog and cats that have been in their care for over 6-months (which is a long time for an animal, to wait to be adopted). They are accepting both donations to help them get adopted as well as asking for folks to adopt them or tell their friends and family and colleagues who may need a dog or cat! You can view the wonderful animals on the Animal Ministry webpage. Go to our page and look for Urgent Needs and click on the link. Thank you for your support.

The Men's Group will meet this Wednesday, June 22nd, at 7 pm in the church. Our group explores the challenges men face in living their lives of faith in a safe, intimate environment. All Men are welcome and we hope to see you there. If you have any questions you can email Jose Ramirez at  mensgroup@incarnation-sr.org

Men's Breakfast!

The Men's Group warmly invites all men to breakfast on Saturday, June 25th at 9am in Farlander Hall. Come and join us for a time of fellowship, hospitality, and getting to know one another a bit better. Fr. Matt will be joining us and will be sharing some of his own experiences with the men's group he is part of, and the issues of being a man and a Christian in Sonoma County. If you would like to attend, please take a moment and visit the Small Group table in Farlander and sign-up (so we know how much food to cook!) If you have any question, please call Mitch Garcia at 703-4162, or email Jose Ramirez at mensgroup@incarnation-sr.org  or call 703-4162.

WE ARE ALL HEALERS is a workshop led by the Rev. Dr. Francis Geddes and the Rev. Brian Cochran. The workshop introduces the contemplative dimensions of healing prayer. Participants learn about ten different spiritual exercises drawn from Christian, Jewish, Eastern, and Native American traditions. These exercises enable  one to work with inner imagery that serves as a bridge between the ill person, the healer, and Christ. The training is held in a private home in Oakmont, for three Saturdays, July 9, 16, & 23; 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Fee is $119, that includes the three sessions. Some scholarships are available. Limited to 12 participants, please register early. Deadline for registration is July 7th. Please see the forms on the long table in Farlander Hall. Call Francis at 579-6726 for further information or email Francis.Geddes@Stanfordalumni.org. Dr. Geddes is author of Contemplative Healing: The Congregation as Healing Community.
