About our new liturgies
With Sunday School in recess, we do not typically do Discovery Sundays in the summer, but we will continue to experiment with our once-a-month new liturgies. Beginning on Pentecost (June 12), we'll be adding new musical approaches to the mix, combining high quality jazz, gospel, and other popular idioms along with traditional hymns and Taizé chants. These services will be an adaptation of the liturgies I developed in Ann Arbor, and shared in workshops and conferences around the country.
For Pentecost, we will welcome back Dave Schraeder, the saxophone player who has led our Easter Vigil music for the past seven years. Pentecost is perhaps the most appropriate Sunday for finding new ways of communicating the Spirit. Don't miss this chance to experience something new, and to lend your voice to the conversation.
Our experimental services over the past three months have been very well received. The results of our surveys are posted in Farlander Hall. We will continue to survey the congregation as we try new approaches. I am truly grateful for the support we have found, as we search for a musical language that communicates God's love across generations while preserving our Episcopal traditions.
