We will not have a pancake breakfast today, to allow for the dedication of the windows and the reception that follows. We will have a pitcher out in Farlander Hall to give you an opportunity to donate to the EYF mission trip. Thank you for your support.
The Via Media classes start today, there is still time to join these classes! We will meet in Room 3 at 11:15 am. Please don't be late.
Today starts a nine week bulletin series on Epiphany. Your Adult Spiritual Formation community offer these thoughts, prayers, and sayings as our gift to you! You can also view these on our website at www.incarnation-sr.org/season/epiphany.php. If you missed the Epiphany Service you can view the hand-out and other material at our Epiphany webpage.
Invitation to Epiphany: The Christmas story that we have shared over the years through narrative and tradition, paints rich images of men bringing treasure chests of gifts to the Christ child. Some people may think of them as foolish men, rather than "the three wise men." Ponderously travelling through the desert, risking their lives on a "sign" in the sky seems more foolish than wise. In the end, it was their foolish wisdom that gave them sight to see the light of God breaking into a dark world.
For God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength. (1 Corinthians 1:25)
Suggested Reading: Psalm 72:1-14 · Ephesians 3:1-12
Consider: Slowly and intentionally pray the Lord's Prayer, seeking to experience the deepest meaning of your relationship with God. Allow the words to penetrate your inmost being.
A walking cane was found in the Kitchen on Monday, December 20. It is blue with flowers on it. If you have lost a cane and think this might belong to you, please call the Church Office at 707-579-2604.
Christmas Cards for Crafts: Please bring your 'used' Christmas cards to Farlander Hall. Next November, they will be distributed to The Living Room, a nursing facility, a preschool and the YWCA's A Special Place, a preschool for at risk children. It is amazing what they can do with them. These groups give us all a hearty thanks every year. There will be a container in Farlander Hall through January. Jelly glasses: There will be another round-up next fall for them. Jellies and jams are big sellers at the Holiday Bazaar each year. Please save them. Many thanks.
The Flower Chart for the year 2011 is now on the South wall near the back of the Church. You will find spaces after each Sunday date for each Month of 2011. You can sign up for one or more dates. Someone from the office will call you to learn how you want your flowers noted in the bulletin. The flower offerings can be given in memory of someone, in Thanksgiving or in Celebration of some event, etc. The members of the Altar Guild will buy the flowers to arrange and place on the Reredos for the proper Sunday you have chosen. More than one family may sign up for any given Sunday. The cost for each Sunday is $50. Just put your check in the offering plate, marked "altar flowers," or mail it to the Church Office.
Please donate to the "Winter Coat and All Things Warm" Drive for St. Andrew's Food Program. Now is the time to clean out your closets for gently used winter coats, hats, gloves, rain gear, and scarves. Winter clothing items can be placed in the designated box in Farlander Hall. A warm coat or rain jacket is very much appreciated by the guests of the St. Andrew's Feeding Program, who often are homeless or live in unheated housing. Thank you very much. Incarnation has been very generous in contributing to this program in the past few years.
Fantastic Music, Organ-Style! The 6:00 pm, Friday, January 14, "Twilight" Pipe Organ Mini Recital will feature Harold Julander, organist of Church of the Incarnation. Also included will be a premier work based on the hymntune, "L'Ping," a work featured at the Washington, D.C., American Guild of Organists convention this past summer. The program, lasting about one half hour, will highlight the versatility of the Casavant organ at the Church of the Incarnation, located at 550 Mendocino Avenue. As with all the mini recitals, those wishing to are invited to attend a no host dinner afterwards in a local Santa Rosa restaurant. A free will offering is asked to help with costs.
The Evening Women's Group will meet on Tuesday, January 18 at 7 pm, at the home of B. J. Yeager. All women are welcome to join us. It's that time of year... Mark your calendars now for the Annual Meeting! Saturday, Jan 29, beginning at 2 pm with a special meeting on a topic to be announced soon, followed by our business meeting at 4 pm. Looking for a way to volunteer in your own home? The Kitchen goes through a lot of towels each week - we need an additional person to take them home and wash them on the same day of the week every week, then bring them back within two days. If this job is for you, contact Marjorie Whistler (707-542-5813) or the church office (707-579-2604). Thank you!
