Some of us may not know that
right across the street from us there are not only Unitarians but also
Muslims! They gather at the Islamic Society of Santa Rosa, in space
rented from the Unitarians. Today we are invited by the Islamic Society to drop
in for an Open House, between 2 and 5. They ask that those coming to the
open house bring a contribution of warm winter clothing for the flood refugees
in Pakistan. If you have never met any Muslims, or would simply like to get to
know our neighbors better, here is a fine opportunity. They have a
separate entrance located at the south edge of the Unitarian's building.
Our Muslim neighbors are most eager to meet us - let's stop in and say hello -
and help those flood victims while we're at it! The Evening
Women's Group will meet on Tuesday, September 21 at 7 pm at the home of
Donna Wiuff. All women are welcome to join us. We are a supportive group
providing a place to share our lives and our spiritual journeys with each
other, building friendships as we go. If you have any questions, please contact
Donna Wiuff at (707) 837-8768. Refuges of Art: Andy Goldsworthy, celebrated sculptor
and land artist, and subject of the renowned documentary film "Rivers and
Tides" is in the midst of a decades-long project of renovating ancient
pilgrim trails in France. Join Kayleen Asbo for a fascinating journey of these
moving works of art, followed by a candlelit Taize service cantored by Claire
Frydenlund. Friday, September 24 at 7:30 pm. $10 suggested donation. Join us for Odd-Job Saturday! Next Saturday, September 25, we will
be working on the "Heavenly Treasures Building." Scraping, brushing, sanding,
repairing, painting. All you people who love to do this sort of thing, this is
for you. We need volunteers, and we will be starting at 8 am, and will work
until noon. The more people who volunteer, the quicker we will finish this much
needed maintenance job. Call Glen at 707-484-5306 if you have any questions. Due to the fact that
the Giving Freezer is still well-stocked, there won't be a need to hold the Giving Freezer Food
Meeting on September 26, as previously advertised (and as you will see in your
bulletin, if you come to church this Sunday). The meeting has been postponed,
until there is a greater need for Giving Freezer meals. Let your wishes be known... Do you have an Advance Health Care
Directive? Come to a FREE Kaiser workshop which is open to everyone -
you do not have to be a Kaiser member to attend. The workshop
is taught by an attorney and a medical doctor and they will help
you: learn what you need to know about advance care planning, choose an
agent to represent you, and put your wishes in writing using the Advance Health
Care Directive form. You may attend on Sept 21 from 3-5 PM or
Nov 2 from 10AM to 12 noon. Please, call 393-4167 or 566-5277 to
register and get directions. We are all invited to two important conversations with other people of faith in Santa
Rosa. These conversations will give us a chance to get to know one another
and make connections around issues that are important to us. These
conversations are part of the North Bay Sponsoring Committee's work to help
congregations connect with each other. All are invited!
"The Personal Impacts of the Economic
Crisis," Monday, September 27, 7 pm Resurrection Parish, 303 Stony Point
Road, Santa Rosa "Wanting the Best for our Children in
Sonoma County," Monday, October 4, 7 pm Shomrei Torah, 2600 Bennett Valley

That day, we'll have two services only: one at 8 am as usual, and one at 10 am, which will be our Confirmation service. More info to come soon.
Save the date! Sunday, October 24 following the 11:15 a.m. service the
Sonoma Council on Aging will come to Incarnation for a presentation on housing
options for seniors in Sonoma County. Lunch will be served. More to come! For
further information contact pastorgail@incarnation-sr.org (or call
707-579-2604 ext. 103). Save the
Date and Come to the Cabaret! The St. Cecilia Choir is
already preparing for the annual Cabaret fundraiser that helps to defray the
cost of the Good Friday orchestra. The Cabaret will be earlier this
year - Sunday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m. and there will be
music from theater, jazz, and a few surprise guests! It promises to be a
wonderful night .... tickets will be available soon! A plea for wayward jelly glasses: Do you have any that
you could recycle to the busy jelly makers for the Christmas Bazaar?
Don't worry if they are topless. That can be remedied. We have a wonderful
offer of special Spanish grapes from a parishioner. We also have
bountiful local fruits that would make lovely jams and jellies as
well. There will be a container by the Bulletin Board near the Outreach
section. Thank you! Volunteer Drivers Needed! We try to offer the service of
driving people to doctor's appointments, church, other special church events,
etc. But to do that, we need some more drivers! If you have some extra time on
your hands and might be willing to help out, or if you are coming here anyway
and would be willing to give someone a ride occasionally, call La Velle Seely
(707-528-2700). Thank you!

Small Groups at Incarnation
What Are Small Groups? A Small Group is simply a group of
people who gather on a regular basis for, friendship, conversation and support.
We have Small Groups covering a variety of different topics and new groups
forming all the time, looking for people just like you! Check out the Small
Groups table in Farlander and if you would like more information, sign-up or
please call Mitch Garcia at 707-703-4162 or email smallgroups@incarnation-sr.org.
If you are interested in starting a small group, please call or email! Centering Prayer: Meets every Monday from 5:00-6:15 pm in the Clergy
Conference Room. Centering Prayer is a technique of silent prayer that prepares
us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience
God's presence within us. This practice of prayer is both a relationship with
God and a discipline to foster that relationship. All are welcome! Poetry Gathering: The Poetry Group is back from its summer break! They
meet the 2nd Monday of each month (3-4:30) in a local home.
"Poetry is the language of devotion in prayer, chant and song. Reading
poetry creates clarity, deepens and expands spiritual inquiry, and cultivates
wisdom, compassion, self-confidence, patience and love." (Robert McDowell).
This groups explore a wide range of poets and their poetry. Through readings
and discussions we discover the richness of this art and how it can be used as
a spiritual practice in our lives.
Philosophy
Group: Come check out the philosophy reading
and discussion group. Philosophy is traditionally defined as the love of
wisdom, but the most famous philosopher of antiquity (Socrates) claimed to know
nothing at all. In the same spirit, Proverbs 3:5 warns that human
understanding may not be so firm as we believe it to be. Philosophy
studies matters that are elusive, yet there is something satisfying about
the activity of exploring itself. Join a group where you can explore the
limits of your understanding and look deeper into questions about knowledge,
truth, justice, being and ethics. We will read texts as a group and come
together to ask questions and discuss them in a spirit of openness and
inquiry. For location, date, and time, please call Mitch Garcia
(707-703-4162) or email: kennethwayneblair@gmail.com. Why should I be in a Small Group? The simple answer is: you will not
grow in your relationship to God in isolation. Sunday worship is where we
gather to celebrate and praise God as a body, in a large group setting. Small
Groups are where we see God working in our own life as well as the lives of
others. Small Groups are gatherings where we can encourage each other and where
we are connected with one another-Small Groups are where this happens. If you are
not yet involved, now is the time!

Words to Ponder:
Death can come at any minute, in any
way. We do not know what is in store
tomorrow, or, whether there is a tomorrow, or
even a tonight! But still, we have the golden
present. Now we are alive and kicking. What should we do now? Love all, serve all. -Sri Swami Satchidananda
