Buxtehude, Böhm, Bruhns and Bach: This afternoon
at 3 pm, here at Church of the Incarnation, Santa Rosa. Organist Charles Rus
plays a fascinating recital on our very own Casavant organ, featuring Bach's
Toccata and Fugue in F Major, his transcription of the Vivaldi Concerto in D
Minor, and works by three prominent composers of the previous generation who
influenced the young Bach: Dieterich Buxtehude, Nicolaus Bruhns and Georg Böhm.
Sponsored by the Sonoma County Bach Society. Tickets will be available at the
door for $12.00 ($8.00 Seniors/Students). Visit www.sonomabach.org for
more info.
Come to the Inquirers & Seekers Class!
There are two sessions remaining: May
16 - 10:30 am-12:00 pm, and May 23 - 12:30-2:00 pm (refreshments
will be served). This is a class for those new to our church, and a place to
safely explore your faith journey as well as to connect with others who are new
to Incarnation. For more info, call the Church Office at 707-579-2604 or send
an email to smallgroups@incarnation-sr.org.
A Warm Welcome from Luther Burbank. We recently
received a wonderful thank you card from one of the teachers at Luther Burbank
Elementary, the school our Church is committed to helping out, and we thought
we should definitely pass the thanks along to you.
"Dear
Members of the Church of Incarnation, One of your members arrived today with a
large bag of pencils and erasers to be donated to our classroom. The students eyed them hungrily and exclaimed
that 'You are the best!' when it comes to supporting their academic endeavors,
and I concur. Your thoughtfulness is very much appreciated, and we'll be thinking
of you frequently as we write, make corrections, and rewrite. Thank you so much
for helping us become better educated with the proper tools to do so. Burbank
School Tigers growl - you are g-r-rr-eat! Gratefully, Mrs. Morgan, Room 22."
The Evening Women's Group will meet on
Tuesday, May 18 at 7 pm at the home of Betsy Evans (address: 4 Dino Court,
Cotati, CA, 707-664-1385. For additional information, contact Marti Kennedy
(707-528-2941). All women are welcome to join us. We are a supportive group providing
a place to share our lives and our spiritual journeys with each other, building
friendships as we go.
Learn how to "dance the night
away!" Only
two more Saturdays remain to enjoy the Ballroom Dance Classes. Donations go to
The Living Room. From 10:30 am-12 pm, May 22 & 29. Don't miss out on this
fabulous opportunity!
Two training sessions will be offered
on Saturday May 22 concerning safeguarding our children and others against
sexual abuse, harassment or exploitation. The people for whom these seminars
are required have been notified, but others are welcome. The morning session,
from 9 am to 12 noon concerns identifying and preventing sexual abuse of
children. This training is required for all church staff and volunteers who
serve our children or are in frequent contact with them. The "identifying" part
is valuable for all, especially parents. The afternoon session is about
sexual harassment and sexual exploitation among Church staff and volunteers as
they interact with each other and with parishioners and others who come to
Incarnation. This training is required for all who have a "pastoral
relationship" with church members, such as hospital visitors, counselors,
clergy, and all church leaders, such as the administrative staff and the vestry.
This part of the training will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. that same day,
Saturday, May 22. If you have not been notified, but think you are one of
the people who should be getting this training, please plan to be present.
Certificates of completion will be recorded and kept in the church files for
insurance purposes and to fulfill national and Diocesan requirements. Questions
can be directed to Fr. Matt Lawrence, Daphne Vernon or Fr. Ed Howell.
Smile! Incarnation is
putting together a pictorial church directory with the help of Olan Mills
Photographers! It has been four years since we last did a directory, so it
needs updating! Olan Mills puts together the directory for us for FREE, and
every family that sits for a free photography session will also get a free 8x10
photo. This is a wonderful deal for all of us! There are also special summer
deals for those wishing to purchase additional photos. We want our new
directory to be complete, which means we need everyone to sit for their
portrait. We have already had a great response, but we would love to see ALL of
you! Olan Mills photographers will be here May 27 and 28, and June 2 through
June 5. See Stephanie Blair or Amy Nykamp for details, and be sure to sign up!
Safe Summer Fair: May 30following the 10
am service. Do you have a passion for summer activities like boating, biking,
gardening, swimming, camping, walking or hiking? Volunteer with us to share
information about safety and health during these summer activities. Interested?
Questions? Contact Gail Cafferata at pastorgail@incarnation-sr.org or Daphne Vernon at youthmin@incarnation-sr.org. Thanks!
The Church Office wants you to
know two
things about scheduling in the near future: 1) We switch to our two-service
Summer schedule on May 30th. Until September, we'll have two services on
Sundays: 8 am and 10 am. We'll kick off the Summer as usual with our BBQ, and
this year we'll incorporate a Summer Safety Fair! 2) The Church Office will be
closed on Monday, May 31st, in observance of Memorial Day.
Incarnation Goes Camping! Join us the
weekend of June 25-27 to go camping at Hendy Woods. You can choose to play in
God's playground by swimming in the swimming hole or hiking, or you can relax
in the midst of his Creation, or do it all! Space is limited so sign up soon by
calling Stephanie Blair at 707-837-2972, or by emailing her at StephChristel@gmail.com.
Cost will depend on the final number of people who sign up, but is anticipated
to be about $20 per person.
Numina presents: Summer Chamber

at the Church, on the 3rd Sundays of June, July, and August. Each
concert begins at 4 pm and is followed by a reception and a chance to meet with
the artists. Panels showcasing a local artist's work will be up as well, so you
will be surrounded by aural and visual beauty! Fellow Incarnation-ites
Carol Menke, Laura McLellan, and Leslie Dukes will be among the featured
musicians! Sponsored by Numina Center for Spirituality and the Arts.

Are you the new
Giving Freezer Coordinator? Imagine it: You hear that someone's
coming home to an empty refrigerator after a recent hospitalization or family
crisis. You know the Giving Freezer is stocked with amazing casseroles, soups
and other easy to heat meals. You pick up the phone and call the first person
on a list of volunteers and ask them if they'd bring a meal to a really grateful
family. They say "yes!" This job could be yours! If you're
interested, please talk with Jan Saucer or email Pastor Gail at pastorgail@incarnation-sr.org.
Pray that we find the one for this job. Is it you?
We have a great need for volunteer
drivers. There are currently several people who would like to attend our
11:15 AM service but have no way of getting here. Please let La Velle
Seely-Ricketts know if you can help with this important ministry.
Pastoral Care: Information for
all of you who have Kaiser Health Care! Do you know that
for $5.00 and a visit to the Medical Secretaries office at Kaiser in Santa
Rosa you can buy a flash drive or memory stick for a computer which you
can carry with you (many people keep it on their key-ring) and contains
all your medical information? All they ask is that you sign an
authorization release, give them a 6-12 character password,
containing both letters and numbers, and pay the $5.00. They will then
transfer all your medical information to the "stick" right on the
spot and you are good to go.In the event of an emergency,
anywhere in the world, this flash drive can be inserted into a USB
port in a computer and viola-the EMT or emergency room staff or
a doctor in your son's hometown (where you may get sick while you are on
vacation) has access to all your medical information. You do not need to
have a computer yourself for this-just carry it with you at all
times. The Medical Secretaries office is located in the main
hospital building, right across from the elevators on the first
floor. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 5 pm and close
daily from 12:00 to 1:00 for lunch.

Words to Ponder:
Darkness deserves gratitude. It is the
alleluia point at which we learn to understand that all growth does not take
place in the sunlight.
