Sunday Announcements
May 2, 2010 -- yep, it's May already!

Check your Blood Pressure! Today, Blood Pressures will be taken, between services, in the Library (at the far end of Farlander Hall).

All Church Members are welcome: The Guild of the Incarnation holds its monthly meeting this Tuesday, May 4 in Farlander Hall at 11:00 a.m. There will be a potluck luncheon at noon after the meeting followed by a program presented by Marita Peterson of the Santa Rosa Fire Department.

Many hands make light work! One of our parishioners, Sharon Cronan, needs help moving in a couple of weeks (May 15). Any and all interested parties are encouraged to sign up in Farlander Hall. Then we can all meet at the church and go together on moving day. Thanks for your help!! Call the office with questions (707-579-2604 ext. 104).

Ballroom Dance Classes are a bit hit! Those who have attended the dance classes so far have had a wonderful time-come join them! We suggest a modest donation for each class, and the proceeds will be donated to The Living Room. From 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m., for 3 remaining Saturdays: 8, 22, and 29. Don't worry, if you miss a session, instructor Jett Sharen will be available for 10-15 minutes before the class to briefly catch you up on what you missed. Thank you, Jett!

The Tuesday Morning Book Group has begun a new collection of short stories. Listening for God contains stories by Flannery O'Conner, Annie Dillard, Garrison Keillor, and five other authors. We continue to meet from 9:30 till 10:30 on Tuesday morning in the Library, which is at the far end of Farlander from the church. We read the stories aloud and then discuss them. Please join us.

The Spring United Thank Offering will be on Sunday, May 16.  Please give generously as you have all done in the past. This money funds many projects throughout the world. There will be information in Farlander Hall about this wonderful outreach program. If you have questions, please call Barbara Avery, UTO Chair, 707-577-8718.

Two training sessions will be offered on Saturday May 22 concerning safeguarding our children and others against sexual abuse, harassment or exploitation. The people for whom these seminars are required have been notified, but others are welcome.

The morning session, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon concerns identifying and preventing sexual abuse of children. This training is required for all church staff and volunteers who serve our children or are in frequent contact with them. The "identifying" part is valuable for all, especially parents.

The afternoon session is about sexual harassment and sexual exploitation among Church staff and volunteers as they interact with each other and with parishioners and others who come to Incarnation.  This training is required for all who have a "pastoral relationship" with church members, such as hospital visitors, counselors, clergy, and all church leaders, such as the administrative staff and the vestry. This part of the training will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. that same day, Saturday, May 22.

If you have not been notified, but think you are one of the people who should be getting this training, please plan to be present. Certificates of completion will be recorded and kept in the church files for insurance purposes and to fulfill national and Diocesan requirements. Questions can be directed to Fr. Matt Lawrence, Daphne Vernon or Fr. Ed Howell.

Summer Safety Fair - May 30th! We're taking our usual Summer Festival and merging it with a Summer Safety Fair to create one fantastic event! After the 10 am service, we'll have a BBQ, a water slide (bring your swimsuit!), and tables where you can get information on Walking/Hiking, Gardening (Organic, Community Gardens, Container Gardening), Boating and Water Safety, and Summer Skin Safety. We hope you join us to eat, learn, and have a great time together as we celebrate the beginning of the Summer Season. If you have a particular passion for any of the subjects listed, you might want to consider helping to "man a table." Please contact Gail Cafferata (pastorgail@incarnation-sr.org, or 707-579-2604 x103) for more info.

Prayer Groups at Incarnation:

~ Centering Prayer: Meets every Monday from 5:00-6:15 p.m. in the Clergy Conference Room. Centering Prayer is a technique of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us. This practice of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. All are welcome!

~ Morning Prayer: Morning Prayer is offered every day (except Wednesday) at 8 a.m. behind the altar. This community meets for a half-hour of prayer using the Book of Common Prayer as their guide. After prayers they meet in the library for a time of fellowship and a light breakfast. All are welcome to share in this time of care and love towards one another and the body of Christ.

Flower Chart 2010 ~ The Altar Guild wants to thank all of you who signed up to give flowers this year. You are an important part of making our old church even more beautiful each and every Sunday. There are spaces still left on this year's Flower Chart. The Altar Guild arranges the flowers you see throughout the church, it's part of our responsibilities and we love doing them. But we can't do it without your help.  The average cost for flowers is about $50.00.  Yes, that's a lot of money, but more than one person/family can sign up to give flowers. (If you can't afford the full amount, we will gladly accept what you can give.) The church office calls the donors so a proper notice can be placed in the bulletin each week. Your flowers do not have to be given for someone who has died. They can be given in celebration of... or thanksgiving for... or just to the Glory of God. Remember we have lots to look forward to this year: Earth Day, Mother's Day, Graduations, Memorial Day, Father's Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Children going back to school, Labor Day, The choirs are singing again, Grandparent's Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, The tomatoes and zucchini are finally done, The annual pledge drive is done, or just because.....  The Flower Chart is located in the back of the church, near the doors. Please help us to continue making our church beautiful each Sunday and sign up soon.

Thank you,

The Altar Guild
