The
Evening Women's Group will meet
on Tuesday, March 16th at 7 pm at the home of Carolyn Rausch. All women are
welcome to join us. We are a supportive group providing a place to share our
lives and our spiritual journeys with each other, building friendships as we
go. If you have any questions, please contact Donna Wiuff at 707-837-8768.
Our
Lenten Series "Lent: A
Season of Reconciliation, Forgiveness and Hope" continues on Wednesday starting
at 6 pm with a delicious Lenten meal in Farlander Hall. This is followed by our
Lenten Series in the church at 6:45 pm. The series will continue on Wednesdays
through March 24. We will be exploring different aspects of hope, mercy, and
understanding. Along with Fr. Matt, we will have different speakers presenting
during this series. This will be a wonderful experience and we look forward to
having you be a part of this event! For more information, email Mitch Garcia at
smallgroups@incarnation-sr.org
call him at 707-703-4162.
Come
to a training for all Eucharistic
Visitors, Friendly Visitors, Flower Ministers and Pastoral Care Coordinators!
Saturday, March 20, 2010 in Farlander Hall. 8:30 am (Sharp!) to 4:30 pm.
Continental breakfast, gourmet lunch, and snacks will be served! Pastoral care
begins with the first contact, and the Pastoral Care Team will
be able to lend greater emotional support, if all team
members are on the same page with a consistent approach to those we serve.
This training day will be a day of fellowship and reflection on how best to
accompany and give emotional support to those we serve. We will discuss
listening skills, standards of confidentiality and the work done by each
ministry group. Fr. Ed will be conducting the Diocesan Training on Sexual Misconduct
Prevention component. Please RSVP to La Velle Seely-Ricketts at 707-528-2700 or
Diane Bruce at 707-838-8676 to confirm that you'll be there. All are invited
who would like to explore the possibility of serving on the Pastoral Care team.
(Please note that those presently serving and wish to continue serving should
plan to attend.)
Chuck
Ward, our beloved former organist, is
being honored with a Lifetime Contribution Award by the Country Dance &
Song Society! Sunday, March 28th, 2 pm to 6 pm. Come for an afternoon of music,
song, and dance, with tributes to Chuck, and tales of his musical pranks and
escapades! Potluck cold buffet will be served. Many of us have fond memories of
Chuck Ward, who was our organist at the 11:15 service for many years, and still
comes back to tune our pipe organ. He is also considered the "father" of
Country Dance here in Northern California! The event takes place at the Albany
Veterans Memorial Building, 1325 Portland Ave, Albany, CA. For more info, see
the bulletin board in Farlander Hall or contact Sharon Green (sharongreen@post.harvard.edu or 510-654-7974).
Our
Annual Good Friday Concert is
coming up! The St. Cecilia Choir and Cantiamo Sonoma will join forces with the
Incarnation Orchestra to perform Franz Schubert's "Stabat Mater D.383 in f
minor" on Good Friday evening, April 2 at 8:00 p.m. Sponsored by Numina. Center for Spirituality and the Arts.
Nicholas Xenelis will be guest conductor, and Leslie Dukes will be organist.
Among the featured soloists will be our own Carol Menke! The "Stabat
Mater" score was completed in February of 1816 but the first public
performance of it was not until March 1833, five years after Schubert's death.
In fact, much of Schubert's music was not well known and appreciated until
after his death. This particular "Stabat Mater" contains some of the best
choral writing of the period, including two fine fugues. Most people know
Schubert for his beautiful lieder and instrumental works, but his choral works
also feature his gift
for the beautiful melodic line. This one traditionally sells out, so get your
tickets now! Tickets are available from Carol Menke, or online at www.numinacenter.org.
A
note from Daphne Vernon-Easter Feast! This year, I am going to help St. Andrew's provide an Easter Feast for
their Food Program participants and those in need on Tuesday, April 6. I am
asking for donations of baked goods. Any baked goods would be a welcome dessert
for this Easter Feast. You can deliver them to church Easter morning and leave
them in Farlander Hall. They will be picked up Monday and served at the Easter
dinner. Thank you in advance for your loving donations from your table to St.
Andrew's.
The
Living Room is proud to announce
another fabulous night at the theater - a benefit performance at the 6th St.
Playhouse to support homeless women and children. This year, the play is
Tartuffe - the classic comedy by Moliere. Wednesday April 7: Reception at
7:30, Performance at 8:00. Proceeds benefit the Living Room. Tickets on
sale at the Incarnation Bookstore!
Come
to four free ballroom classes,
then a dance to raise money for Haiti. See the flier in Farlander Hall.
Instructor Jett Sharen has been a television and movie dancer for many years,
from New York and Hollywood. Let's have fun - learn waltz/foxtrot/rumba
and swing and then have a dance. If interested please sign up. Sessions will
start in mid April.
Olympic
Factoid: The unique bouquets of
flowers which were presented to each medalist on the podium - 1,800 in all -
were all the same, made up of green spider mums with hypericum berries
surrounded by leather-leaf fern, monkey grass, and aspidistra leaves. What's
really interesting? They were all made by Just Beginnings Flowers, a non-profit
company in Surrey (British Columbia, Canada) that employs women who are just
out of prison, abused, fighting addiction, or with special needs, and teaches
them how to be florists. To find out more about them and their social mission,
you can go to their website: www.justbeginningsflowers.com.
We maintain the freezer
with meals for families and crisis, and it happens to be empty. Please contact
Jan Chaffin-Saucer if you would like to contribute a dish.
Wanted:
Bookstore Assistants from the
11:15 Service! The Bookstore is still looking for additional help. We have had
a wonderful response from parishioners who attend the 9:15 service and who have
volunteered to work one Sunday a month following that service. However, we
still need help for about a half-hour following the 11:15 service. If you are
interested in this really fun job, please see Maggie in the Bookstore or call
her at 707- 495-2494.
