School Gardens Are on the Ballot Tomorrow!
|
Okay, not actually on the ballot itself, but thanks to you and your efforts through Montgomery Victory Gardens, the school garden controversy HAS become an election issue in our county in 2010.
This is because the respected League of Women Voters decided to include a question on nutrition and school gardens in their questionnaire to all candidates for Board of Education, with the answers printed in their widely distributed 2010 Voters' Guide.

This is a huge victory, and a direct result of the organizing we have done to make these gardens happen. (At a recent meeting, a County Councilmember noted that MCPS Superintendent Jerry Weast is receiving a lot of letters on the issue.)
You can help us win this battle for our school kids and for a more sustainable, local food system here in Montgomery County with a few simple actions: 1) Vote tomorrow.
2) After the election send a quick email or letter to whomever wins the primary, urging that they make establishing school vegetable gardens (and overturning the current ban), their number one priority. (We will forward their addresses in a follow up email.)
3) Support this work with a tax-deductible contribution to Montgomery Victory Gardens. Good organizing takes money. Help us continue this campaign with a contribution by hitting the "Donate Now" button below. Any (and every) amount helps!

With thanks again for everything you do to help make this a better, more local food-oriented county,
Yours for getting gardens in our schools,Gordon Clark, Project Director Montgomery Victory Gardens |
