October 1 as Honorary June Spiezer Day

June Spiezer, an avid collector of Chicago art is gravely ill.  In 2009 CWCA gave June a special recognition award at the 2010 Awards for Excellence in the Arts.  The Mayor is proclaiming October 1 as Honorary June Spiezer Day. Chicago Women's Caucus for Art (CWCA) will present the exhibition, We Are the Artful Network
 
In conjunction with Chicago Artists' Month, Chicago Women's Caucus for Art (CWCA) will present the exhibition, We Are the Artful Network at Tom Robinson Gallery, 2416 W. North Avenue, Chicago, October 1-22, 2011.  The opening reception is Saturday, October 1 from 4-8 PMSimply Jug Nuts.  Award winning jug band, "Simply Jug Nuts" will perform at the opening reception of the exhibition Saturday, October 1, 6:00 p.m.

Chicago Women's Caucus for Art (CWCA) ia a chapter of the Women's Caucus for Art, a national organization affiliated with the College Art Association that also hosts an annual national conference.  CWCA was founded in 1973.  The organization works for equality and women's rights.  In addition to the national conference, the organization regularly presents meetings, exhibitions and programs of interest to artists.

We Are the Artful Network is a members' exhibition showcasing the works in all media of over 25 members.  In addition to the exhibition, CWCA will present several programs and events and all will be held at Tom Robinson Gallery.  On October 13 at 6:30 PM the film, Our City of Dreams will be shown. The viewer will visit the creative spaces of five women artists, Nancy Spero, Swoon, Marina Abromovic, Ghada Americ and Kiki Smith- all from New York. This presentation will be coordinated by Helene Smith-Romer                and the I Due Art 4 You Museum.  Free Program.

October 15, 3-4 PM, photographer Judy Langston will present a documentary series on New Orleans, before and after Hurricane Katrina.  Also on October 15, 4:30-6 PM Jeanine Hill-Soldner will present the Portraits of American Veterans Project, artwork about war and how it affects all of us.  Free programs.

October 19, 6:30-8:30 PM, a workshop 3 Palettes, 3 Paints, explores colors with Golden Paints and is presented by Golden artist Sandra Bacon.  Fee charged.  Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of color palettes.

October 21, 6:30-8:30 PM, a workshop, Exploring Gamblin Oil Painting Mediums, presented by Gamblin Artist-Representative Andrea Harris. Fee charged.  Participants will explore Gamblin painting fluid and gel mediums to better enhance their artistic intent.

The closing reception will be Saturday, October 22, 4-8 PM.
 2012 National Women's Caucus for Art - Call for Art!

"Momentum"

 - Contemporary Women's Art.  Commemorating 40 years of the Women's Caucus for Art, Momentum presents the art and ideas of intergenerational contemporary women artists.

About the Exhibition:  "Momentum" is part of WCA's Momentum: 40 Years of WCA Conference that takes place from February 22-25, 2012 in Los Angeles. The Women's Caucus for Art Conference is held in conjunction with the College Art Association (CAA) Conference. WCA is a non-profit 501(c)3  organization and an affiliate society of CAA.

Reception with the artists:  Friday, February 24, 2012, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

 

Eligibility: Open to all US self-identified women artists.   

 

Submissions:  All submissions must be made online at: www.nationalwca.org.  You will find the link to submit on the homepage.

 

Entry Fee:  Up to three pieces of work.  $35 for WCA and LAAA members in good standing, $45 for nonmembers.

 

Entry Deadline:  Friday, November 18th, uploaded to online entry system by 11:59 PM PST.

 

 

 

Illinois Artisans Program, Illinois State Museum 

Illinois artists are invited to submit applications to the Illinois Artisans Program, Illinois State Museum. All areas of arts and crafts, including folk, traditional, contemporary, ethnic and country, as well as fine art forms are sought. Deadlines are October 12th and March 28th every year.

NEWS:
NEW art museum in Chicago  
DePaul University opens its university museum with "Re: Chicago," an all Chicago exhibition.  The museum is a 15,200 sq. ft. space and is located at 935 W. Fullerton Ave.  The exhibition showcases 41 Chicago artists, past and present and spans 150 years.

The Museum of Contemporary Art is ending its solo exhibitions, 12x12, devoted to Chicago artists. 
In November "Chicago Works" will replace 12x12.  They will feature four exhibitions per year of local artists. Visit

SOFA, (International Sculpture Objects + Functional Art Fair) will be held November 4 - 6, 2011 at Navy Pier. Courtesy shuttles will run from Navy Pier to the MCA  and the River North Gallery District.
