Leadership in Bible History
A Comparison of Two Opposites
 |
Jerry Nance
|
By Jerry Nance PhD, President, Global Teen Challenge
Each year I read through the Bible and make notes in it as I read. I get a new Bible each year and dedicate it to one of my grandkids and make notes to them as I read. I encourage them, I challenge them and I often say how much I love them and how proud of them I am. I might write the date and the nation that I am in when I make the note in the Bible to keep it interesting for them. I am hoping to leave a legacy for my grand kids that states the Word of God was important to "Paw Paw". It keeps me reading the Bible because I have 3 grand kids left to dedicate a Bible to and make notes in. I have 6 grand kids now and one on the way. I will have 6 granddaughters and 1 grandson. I am now reading Abigail's Bible, she is 4. I am reading through the Old Testament and I continue to be amazed at how quickly the children of Israel and Judah flip flop back and forth in their faith in God. Manasseh In 2 Kings 21 we read about Manasseh who was 12 years old when he became king. In verse 2 it says, "He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the detestable practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites." What is really sad is what you read about Manasseh's dad, Hezekiah. He had done much to restore the worship of the Lord in Israel. "He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord." (2 Kings 18:3) Where was the disconnect with Manasseh? Why did he not follow the way of his father? Where was the shortfall in Hezekiah's parenting of his son? What drew Manasseh into such horrible sin? Notice what Manasseh did: He rebuilt the high places to worship pagan gods He erected altars to Baal He bowed down to worship the stars He sacrificed his own son in the fire He practiced divination, sought omens and consulted mediums and spiritists He put Asherah poles in the temple of the Lord "He led the nation into sin, and they did more evil than the nations the Lord had destroyed before the Israelites." (2 Kings 21:9) His influence as king led the entire nation into sin. Leaders have influence, and with this influence comes responsibility. As a leader, your life, your example, and your witness have the ability to influence those who are following you. As you read 2 Kings 21:11-25 you see that God was burning with anger because of their sin and He was bringing judgment. Consequences always follow actions. Leaders must recognize that their actions have lasting impact on those around them. Their families, staff and friends are highly impacted by their lives. The Contrast - Josiah Notice in 2 Kings 22:1 Josiah was 8 years old when he became king. In verse 2 it says, "He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or the left." This passage is interesting to me because Josiah's father was Amon, who had just been assassinated and it was noted about him in 2 Kings 21:20 that he had done evil in the eyes of the Lord. "He (Amon) followed completely the ways of his father, worshiping the idols his father had worshiped, and bowing down to them." (2 Kings 21:21) Jerry Nance

15,000 Hear Testimonies Through TC Western Cape - School Prevention Program
 | School Children Praying |
One of the most strategic opportunities available for Teen Challenge today is the chance to harness available assets for drug prevention in the schools. Schools around the world have presented student programs dealing with dangers of abuse, statistics, and advice. Many question the effectiveness of Prevention programs. There is no more powerful tool in prevention than the personal testimony of someone who has actually been lost in bondage and experienced freedom.
Sharing first-hand details about the consequences of drug abuse, a testimony also provides for us an opportunity to share the source of our cure, Jesus Christ. In Cape Town South Africa, Teen Challenge has ministered to over 15, 000 children in the Western Cape over the last 4 months. Their program is incredible and they are overwhelmed by requests from schools to implement the program. Click here for a one minute look into their school outreach.
As a result of this successful program in schools and good reports from headmasters, Jacobus Nomdoe, Director of the Teen Challenge Western Cape, has received invitations from schools from across South Africa. The Parliam entarian in the Eastern Cape has requested Teen Challenge to assist to combat the current gang and drug problems in their region. They also recently received an invitation to address the standing committee of Education in the National Parliament.
Teen Challenge Western Cape is now preparing to roll out a new prevention program for the opening of the 2013 African School year in January. It will be a strong combination of Sports and Education with emphasis on Education, especially for young women.

Ministry in the Streets of Nairobi Kenya by Bernie Gillott
A fter a busy day at the All Africa Conference, International leaders from all eight nations that attended the conference braved dangerous conditions and joined us for a powerful street meeting in Nairobi Kenya's Mathare district, a collection of slums that are home to more than half a million people. More than 60% are youths, and it is known to be one of the world's most congested, ugliest and harshest slums.
Teen Challenge leaders waded into the crowds eager to minister the power of Jesus Christ. From tears of repentance, to the echoes of deliverance, as they took direct authority over satanic oppression, God moved powerfully.
As night fell, despite the danger of being on the street, the needy remained pressing into the altar for a touch from God. Through the pain, despair, addiction, and violence that stalk the dark alleyways of Mathare they heard a voice of hope and new life as they reached out for their own miracle. As we saw flashes of lightning in the distance and heard the thunder from the East and West, the rain did not begin to fall until the last person had been prayed for during the altar call. This was in direct answer to prayer,
