  Greetings!

It is 2012 and we are beginning this year with a special call to prayer. See Jerry Nance's article on prayer as well as the Prayer Summit information on how you can participate in this upcoming special prayer event.

This month our featured region is Northern Asia. We have a  special report from Doug and Kelley Samuelson.

May God's special blessing be on you and your ministry in 2012.

" Pray! People, Pray!"

Jerry Nance

By Jerry Nance PhD, President, Global Teen Challenge

A little boy in church was behaving badly to the point his dad got really angry with him. His dad picked him up and put him over his shoulders to take him outside to punish him. As they were about to leave through the doors, the little boy shouted out, "Pray! People, pray!"

He had his reasons to ask for the church people to pray, but today I want to shout out to Teen Challenge leaders worldwide, "Pray! People, pray!"

On February 9-11, we will host the Teen Challenge Prayer Summit, which will highlight prayer as a primary value of this ministry. I believe prayer is a critical value we must embrace as we lead forward.

Prayer is critical to your life and leadership in Teen Challenge. I know you have a commitment to the Lord and a faith that is empowering your life. But are you spending quality time in the presence of the Lord? Are you taking the time-making the time to pray? Is His presence accompanying you throughout each day because you have spent time in His presence in the early hours of the day?

At this time in the history of Teen Challenge we must be leaders who know prayer. We must be men and women of prayer. The only way for us to keep the passion for this work and not allow the pressures of this work to distract us is to pray.

The Bible tells us in Revelation 3:20, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me." (NIV)

Do you realize that Jesus wants to spend time with you? He longs for fellowship with you. What is keeping you from opening the door and allowing Him to come in and bring His presence into your situation? Can you afford to do your work without Him?

Corrie ten Boom said, "Don't pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees."

John Wesley said, "I have so much to do that I spend several hours in prayer before I am able to do it."

E. M. Bounds said that those who know God the best are the richest and most powerful in prayer. Little acquaintance with God, and strangeness and coldness to Him, make prayer a rare and feeble thing.

The following is a tool that I use to pray.  I have mentioned this tool in the past, but I want you to have it as we head into the prayer summit.

The Global Teen Challenge team is praying for you and your center's needs. We are believing God to meet your every need.

19 Days of Prayer

Prayer Summit February 9- 11, 2012 to be streamed live.

We are very excited about the upcoming Prayer Summit hosted by Teen Challenge of the Southeast Region. This event is to bring us back to the roots of this ministry when on February 9th 1958 God began to burden the heart of David Wilkerson to focus on prayer and spend less time watching TV. This was the beginning of 19 days of prayer that were responsible for the foundation of Teen Challenge.  Don Wilkerson

Don Wilkerson will be our keynote speaker on February 9, and will kick off two days of prayer, worship and intercession. The International House of Prayer ministry will be providing a team along with many others from the Teen Challenge family to lead us in our times of worship and prayer between our times of preaching.

We want to call you to prayer and fasting as the Lord would have you do so. We feel compelled to take this opportunity to highlight our founder's commitment to prayer during the first 50 years of our existence and make prayer a priority for the next 50 years. We also want to challenge people to participate in 19 days of prayer with prayer focuses and prayers of proclamation for each of those 19 days.

We are pleased to announce that we will be streaming the entire Prayer Summit live! The event will begin Thursday February 9th at 7pm Eastern Time (USA).

See below for the Schedule of events and links for live streaming.

You are also welcome to come to Columbus, Georgia, for this event, but there are only a few spaces available.  Please contact Gary Blank at the Teen Challenge International Conference Center: email:  gary.blank@teenchallenge.cc  or phone:  334-855-0876

Northern Asia
report from Doug & Kelley Samuelson

Doug and Kelly Samuelson
Doug and Kelley Samuelson

With the population of Northern Asia being 1.3 billion, there is great potential for Teen Challenge (TC) centers to provide positive services in many large cities. Faithful leaders have already begun the work, and to date, four Teen Challenge centers exist. The faith based principles of TC along with committed leadership are sure to birth healthy centers that will bear fruit and multiply. Our prayer is to see dozens of Teen Challenge centers raised up over the next decade by leaders within the Northern Asia region. These centers exist to restore lives that have been damaged by life controlling substances.

We moved to Northern Asia in early January 2012. Our first year will be filled with significant time devoted to learning the language. Our plan is to get to know the directors and staff at the existing Teen Challenge centers and also connect with several of the 30-40 other faith-based recovery programs in the region to create a broad support network.

NA Family

As part of our vision, we will participate in regional training conferences for TC and non-TC centers, as well as church, medical and governmental leaders in Northern Asia to foster relationships, and provide teaching tracks in TC curriculum (www.iTeenChallenge.org), leadership development, micro business development and sustainability, new center development, TC standards of operation, and developing effective public/government relationships.

Life Changing Trips Every March !!!
By Jon Connally, GTC contruction team coodinator

It is always amazing when volunteer construction teams return from a foreign country with a common statement of "It was a life changing trip". They ate strange food, slept on strange beds, worked harder than ever and yet it becomes a trip they can't wait to do again.

The following is just that, a wonderful testimony of a team that continues to return year after year!

In late February 2011 a team of 12 MAPS workers from Abundant Life Church in Jackson,

Contruction Team
Contruction Team from Jackson, Georgia

Georgia flew to Dublin, Ireland to work at Tiglin, the Teen Challenge Center for Ireland. Some of us were MAPS veterans; for others it was a first trip. For all of us, it was a life-changing experience. What made this experience stand out from the rest?

The place, Tiglin, is a haven to those who have come there. Nestled in a national forest, and far removed from the city and the streets that many have come from, it is a place of "quiet rest". From the minute we stepped onto the property we could sense the peace and healing presence of God.

The people, residents and staff alike, were a family, and they welcomed us as family. We ate every meal with them, getting to know one another as we worked and fellowshipped together. We went out to Dublin's City Center and witnessed first-hand their caring and compassion for the lost as they served the homeless through the No Bucks Café. Their impact was evident as they ministered, many in the very streets from which they came not so long before. We worshipped with them, at church and in chapel. In a week's time we developed lasting friendships that continue to grow.

The purpose and passion of the leadership and the residents of Teen Challenge Ireland, however, is what made the greatest impact on our group. Ireland is a country that is near death spiritually; only 1% profess to be Christians. Teen Challenge Ireland has a vision beyond setting individuals free; they have a passion to bring revival to Ireland through their graduates.

This MAPS trip had lasting impact on our lives. We saw a group of unlikely individuals with a BIG Vision and a BIG Faith doing things beyond what they could even think or imagine. It inspired us to be more than Sunday Saints; one entered full time ministry as a result of this trip. Abundant Life is continuing to partner with this ministry to help complete the construction work needed to complete the center and will return to Tiglin in March 2012.

Prayerfully consider forming a team that can impact lives forever. Please contact Global Teen Challenge for help to do just that.

Ministry Opportunity in Tasmania

The new Teen Challenge men's center in Tasmania, Australia is requesting the help of 2 experienced TC male workers who would be willing to give 6 months to 1 year of missionary service to their center until local staff can be recruited and trained. There is a Director but no staff. The center will provide room and board, but can't provide a salary. Any interested worker would be required to pay their own transportation to Australia and any incidental personal expenses. If you are interested please contact the Global Teen Challenge office.
