Greetings!

We hope that in 2010 you will be a key part in many new miracles of transformation at Teen Challenge. Every direction we look, we see great opportunities.

It's been one year since we launched the iTeenChallenge.org website. As we add new staff training materials, student curriculum and other resources, we hope you will find this a very helpful place to obtain tools to make your ministry more effective.

Reflections for the New Year,  by Dr. Jerry Nance
Dr. Jerry Nance

Last month I talked about leaving a legacy and I asked, "What are you doing to prepare for leaving a legacy?" and "Who are you mentoring as a successor?"

As leaders with the responsibility for steering our organization, we own the responsibility to plan for the future. Now, it is easier to just let each day come and go as they may and just get by. Some leaders say, " We're just walking by faith and letting God lead us." Now don't get me wrong, I believe in trusting God and walking by faith, but I sure like to know that I am walking in the right direction with some purpose.

We are living in days when overnight it seems that everything changes. Our computer gets outdated, the phone we bought yesterday was replaced with a better version today, technology supersedes your ability to fund the change, personnel challenges and governmental regulations continue to cause change.

As we enter 2010 let me recommend that you forget what is in the past and challenge you to press onward with your goals. Paul had a good perspective Philippians 3:13-14, " Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are ahead. 14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

Paul was looking forward toward the end goal. What is your end goal? Let me ask another question. What are you doing to prepare for this year? What would you like to accomplish this year? How far down the road would you like to be on completing your goals?

Let me share with you a Moose Hunting Story:
A friend was telling me the other day a story about a couple of his friends who had gone moose hunting in Northern Canada. They had to be flown in by a pontoon plane. The pilot landed on a lake in this remote area. He told the hunters as he was about to leave, "Remember you can only get one moose, because that's all the plane will hold. I'll be back Friday afternoon to get you."

When the pilot arrived back on Friday and taxied the plane over to the shore, he saw that the two hunters had two moose. He said, "I told you guys one moose!"

The hunters responded, "The pilot last year flew out with two moose."

The pilot asked, "Was it the same kind of plane and same size lake we landed on?"

"Yes, same size plane and the same lake, but the pilot last year, he was a younger man and we guess he had a little more nerve and courage than you."

The older pilot's pride was challenged and he said, "Well, if he did it, I can do it, too." So they strapped one moose on each of the pontoons and went to the end of the lake. The pilot revved the engine and they took off. Just as they were about to get beyond the trees, a pontoon struck a tree and sent them crashing to the ground. Both wings were torn off, the two hunters were thrown out of the plane and the pilot, being strapped in, went to the ground with an awful crash. The pilot was fine, and the two men luckily were OK.  One hunter woke up and asked the other hunter, "What happened?" The other answered, "We crashed."  "Well, where are we?"  "We're about 100 feet further than we were last year."

Question, How far would you like to go in 2010, a hundred meters or so further than last year? Or, would you like to make some real progress? It's up to you.

Pray and ask God what He wants you to do this year.

iTeenchallenge.org Update, by Gregg FischerGregg Fischer

It has been one year since the iteenchallenge.org staff training website has gone online. Since that time we have added the "student curriculum" and the "resources" sections to the site. We have heard some very encouraging reports of how this tool is being used all over the world to train individual staff as well as training groups in conference settings.

As for 2010, I want to share with you just a few of the exciting things we are working on to make this site even better. First of all we will continue to search for and also develop more training courses, curriculum and resources to add to the site. We are also exploring ways to add a multi-lingual feature to the site so it can be viewed in many languages. Many have requested a template or schedules for which courses are recommended for various types of staff training. This is something we hope to have soon.

Other areas that we are exploring are to develop partnerships with existing ministries. One such organization is John Maxwell's EQUIP leadership training ministry. EQUIP offers leadership training in over 40 languages around the world. Many of these leadership and ministry topics are excellent for Teen Challenge staff training.

Global University is another partnership that we working on. Daryel Erickson will be joining our team later this year. He has 25 years of experience with working Global University and will bring this expertise to our iteenchallenge.org training package. We are very excited about all the possibilities.

We are also working on new delivery methods for training courses offered on our site. One such method is to develop online/e-learning modules that could be used for individual instruction or possibly as a virtual group classroom. The virtual group could include participants from around the world discussing and interacting by means of internet technology.

As we continue to work to make iteenchallenge.org even better, remember that we need your help. Please send to us training materials that you may have or that you may have translated from our website. Send us your suggestions and comments as well. We need and value your help.

Global Teen Challenge MAPS Construction Teams, by Jon Connally
 Jon Connally
We are very excited about what the Lord is doing around the globe through the growth of Teen Challenge.  One of the exciting ways you can get involved is through MAPS ministry (missions construction projects).  This ministry affords the opportunity for teams to partner through giving of their talents for a short term trip.  The result is a Teen Challenge Center will be planted and established at locations around the world through donated labor and funding.

This process gets started by a missions director or pastor or team leader choosing a project, coordinated through the Global Teen Challenge office.  Then you need to build a team specific to the needs of the project.  Teams can include 5-25 people. Some projects require funds, while others may not.

Another option is to contact our office and join an existing team already scheduled for a trip.  Most trips are 7-10 days with cost ranging from $1,000 to 2,500 dollars-it all depends on where you are going.  All trips require you to have a passport. Some require medical shots specific to that country.  The Global Teen Challenge office is here to assist in helping teams prepare and plan while lending leadership to the specific project.

Currently there are opportunities in more than 20 locations around the world.  Most schedules include two days of travel, 5 days of work with one day of sightseeing.  These teams normally will depart on Saturday and return on Sunday.  One of the greatest joys in your walk with the Lord is giving of your talents and time on the mission field in this regard.  Your gift will be an ongoing investment that will bring eternal dividends in the lives of men and women, boys and girls.
