LeadershipLeadership focus by Dr. Jerry Nance

Dr. Jerry NanceI have wanted to begin an email newsletter for some time but other projects seemed to be of greater priority. We now have more staff and can continue to focus on our strategic plan. Our team is doing an excellent job in writing, capturing and reformatting staff training tools from around the world. The new website www.iTeenChallenge.org was a dream but is now a reality. I hope the tools we have provided there for you and your staff will be a blessing and help.

God is truly working in Teen Challenge and our coalition centers. I have been so encouraged as I visit regions of the world and see how many new centers are opening, how staff are being trained and how many new coalition centers are joining our training efforts.

I want to share some of the Elements for Building an effective Teen Challenge. I will take several months to lay out all the elements but today I want to talk to you about "A Thriving Team."  The list of elements I will share over the next few months are not a complete list, but these principles are true for 500 of the largest companies in the world.

A Thriving Team is a key to any company, ministry or organization. Jim Collins in his book Good to Great says it this way: To build a great organization you have to get the right people on the bus, then put these people in the right place on the bus and then get the wrong people off the bus.

Our staff are our greatest assets. They are the key to the future of our organization. They are the ones to whom we will leave our legacy. If our legacy is to last we must invest in the staff and raise them up to be all God wants them to be. We must invest in them. We must provide training and an example for them to follow.

One in Spirit and Purpose. Philippians 2:2-4 says, "Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being in one spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should not only look to your interests, but also the interests of others."

To build your ministry you must build your team and invest in them if you want them thriving, in one spirit and purpose. Time, money and training are the keys. It is absolutely essential if you want your ministry to be effective, grow and have lasting results.

May God help you as you lead,
Jerry Nance PhD

Introducing
www.iTeenChallenge.org

A new website at www.iTeenChallenge.org was recently started to provide you with staff training materials, student curriculum and other resources for your Teen Challenge ministry. We have already uploaded materials for over 50 staff training courses, and more are being loaded every month. We want to provide these materials in a variety of languages.

With many of these courses we will include a teacher's manual, participant's manual or notesheet, and a powerpoint presentation. We want to video tape the course being taught and then offer a video version, audio version and a printed transcript of the training. Not all courses will have all of these immediately.

The student curriculum and resources sections of the website will be available in the next few weeks. Right now on the home page of this website you can find information on how to use the website.

There are several ways you can help us with this website. First, we hope this is something that will assist in training you and your staff for ministry. You can download these materials and use them as is, or you can repackage them for training your staff. Second, please send us feedback on how these materials have been used in your ministry-either for personal study, or training staff at your ministry. If you see translation mistakes whether small or large, please let us know.

We also welcome your ideas to make this website more helpful. If you have staff training materials that are not included on this website, please contact us. We are very interested in getting additional materials from around the world to include on this website. If you want to expand what is already listed for a particular course-for example creating a powerpoint or some other resource, we would welcome your help.

You can also help us by translating materials into other languages. However, before you do this, please contact us to confirm that someone else is not already translating the same materials. Please contact us at gtc@globaltc.org

updateUpdating your center information on our website

Later this month we will be contacting each Teen Challenge center around the world (outside the USA) to have you verify the information we have listed for your center. We are creating a new global database which will provide current contact information and basic statistics on each ministry. We want to accurately represent your ministry, so please watch for that email and respond quickly.

The Cross and the Switchblade

C&Slogo1. We need your help in sending us testimonies of people who have read the book The Cross and the Switchblade and how it has impacted their life. We have potential donors who will help to fund the printing of this book, but we must first provide a variety of testimonies of how this book has been helpful. So please send us testimonies-you can email them to us at gtc@globaltc.org or go to the "Contact Us" page on our website for mailing address. Click here to go the "Contact Us" page.

2. We currently have two versions of The Cross and the Switchblade book-the full length original version, and a condensed version-about ¼ the length of the full version. We recommend you consider the condensed version for a give-away edition for evangelism.  A new 18 page 2008 epilogue was added to the original full length English version giving an update on what has happened in the 45 years since the book was first published.

3. If you are interested in having either the full length or condensed edition published in your language in your country, then you must first have a signed contract with John Sherrill and Chosen Books. Please contact Dave Batty at the Global Teen Challenge office to get more details on this. Even if you have had this printed in your language in the past, you need to confirm that you have a current contract for new printings.

RecentRecent happenings in Teen Challenge worldwide

Tom BremerEurope Teen Challenge 40th Anniversary Conference:  Last month over 400 people from 27 nations attended the Europe Teen Challenge (ETC) conference in Prague, Czech Republic. They celebrated the 40th anniversary of Teen Challenge being established in Europe. What started as a coffeehouse outreach in Belgium in 1969 under the leadership of Howard and Pat Foltz has spread across the continent. Many different country reports shared the miracles of how God is transforming drug addicts into men and women of God.  Tom Bremer, ETC Director (pictured at right), also shared on how Teen Challenge is currently being planted in Luxembourg and Israel.
