Constellation Grant Awarded to Green Schools for 200 Student Ambassadors!
Constellation Energy EcoStar Grants
Environmental stewardship is one of Constellation Energy's foundational values. The EcoStar Grant program was launched in January 2010 with a request for applications from nonprofit organizations seeking funds for environmental projects in their communities. EcoStar Grants are available to projects that fit into one or more of five stewardship categories: pollution prevention, education and outreach, energy efficiency, conservation and community activism.

Green Schools Inc. - 200 Green Schools Ambassadors for Good
Green Schools Ambassadors are school aged stewards who bring about change in local schools and communities. Each Ambassador is tasked with designing an environmental project that will benefit his/her school or community. Each Ambassador must design a project that 1) Addresses an environmental need and 2) Can be sustainable! Projects have come in the forms of renewable projects, green roofs, greenhouses, recycling programs, and educational events.

EcoStar Highlights

National Wildlife FederationThis letter acknowledges the positive steps the Obama Administration has taken, including the new U.S. Green Ribbon Schools Award Program and Interagency Task Force on Enviro Ed, but it sends the message that the budget is where the rubber meets the road and we can only do so much without federal support in the budget.

Robin Organ at Green Schools Selected as a 2012 Nonprofit Excellence Award Finalist
Mass Nonprofit Network
The Massachusetts Nonprofit Network has announced that Robin Organ at Green Schools, an environmental education and youth organization in Mansfield, has been selected as a finalist for the 2012 Nonprofit Excellence Awards. The Excellence Awards are given each year to outstanding nonprofit organizations and professionals in the Commonwealth as part of MNN's Nonprofit Awareness Day, a statewide holiday recognizing the nonprofit sector in Massachusetts.

U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Award
Green Ribbon School Elementary and secondary green schools are key to our nation's competitiveness in the 21st century. They prepare students to participate in the new green economy, while strengthening the nation's ability to increase our energy security, conserve precious natural resources, and reduce chances of losing American jobs to other countries who charge ahead and take the lead.

On September 23, 2011, the U.S. Secretary of Education, EPA Administrator, and Council on Environmental Quality Chair opened the pilot year for the new Green Ribbon Schools (GRS) award to recognize the highest performing green schools in the nation. Modeled on the prestigious Blue Ribbon Schools award, Green Ribbon recognizes k-12 public and private elementary, middle and high schools who demonstrate the greatest combined achievement in the following three "Pillars":
  1. 100% of the school's graduates are environmentally and sustainability literate,
  2. The school has a "net zero" environmental impact; and
  3. The school has a "net positive" impact on student and staff health.
More than just an award, Green Ribbon lays out a thoughtful vision for what being a green school means. It sets a clear and high benchmark for success, which is much needed by the green school community.

Note: Green Schools has actively shared this program with MA and other states.
