Dear Friends:

Our May meeting with Penny Swaybill on Positive Affirmations was insightful - and the energy was very high.  Thank you Penny!

Our next regular meeting will be Sunday, July 1, 6:30PM - 9:30PM, at the home of Adriana Ames in Novato.  Please see the end of this email for directions.

Nicki Koethner is our presenter.  Here is what she has to say about Expressive Arts Therapy:

"Through some warm-up games, movement, drawing, painting, writing and sounding you are invited to explore something in your life that involves a pattern that doesn't serve you anymore.  The use of the arts can help us to see a problem from a new perspective and distance that might offer new solutions to us. It also supports to get in closer touch with your underlying feelings that seek expression.  The arts give you a container for what your psyche is ready to express.  We will work in the group, with dyads as well as individually.

I hope it will be playful and meaningful at the same time. In this presentation I will be using my professional background of using the arts for healing to provide a safe space to explore your own stories however I won't be acting as a psychotherapist.  If any questions come up after the meeting, feel free to contact me for consultation.

Nicki Koethner is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (MFTI) currently working under supervision in a private practice in Oakland with children, adults and families. As an artist she also provides Expressive Arts classes "Theater for Change" for incarcerated men at the SF County Jail in San Bruno in the program Resolution to Stop Violence Program. She also provides psychoeducational workshops for children and parents of divorce/separation for Kids Turn. She serves on the Board of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association. Nicki Koethner received her Masters in Counseling with Concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy at the California Institute for Integral Studies (CIIS).

We look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

ABOUT RAHM

RAHM is a forum for people to share what they have learned in their lives, their classes, workshops, degree programs, books and other media.  The group is structured on non-hierarchical principles.  We each share and contribute equally.

The purpose of RAHM is practical, with an emphasis on healing, guidance, therapy, and personal growth.  It's not just a "lecture" group but is also experiential.  Topics are based on the presenter's own background and skills - or can be something the presenter would like to learn more about.  There is no better way to learn something than to teach it!

The RAHM group (Reading And Healing Marin) meets monthly, every 3rd or 4th Sunday or as pre-announced, and unless otherwise notified, 6:30PM - 9:30PM.  It is important to be on time!  For directions, see below.

There will be short breaks and light snacks.  There is no charge for RAHM meetings, but please bring something to share.  In some exercises, we may be lying on the floor.  So bring pillows if you can, and dress comfortably.
