Case Study - John H. Boner Community Center

User:  The John H. Boner Community Center exists to help families recognize their strengths and abilities as they move toward self-reliance and an improved quality of life.  As part of the Near Eastside Community Organization (NESCO), the Center is part of an organization based off of common goals, sharing in the desire to make the community a wonderful place to live, work, and play.  The strong spirit of the Near Eastside exists because of the area's desire to readily invite redevelopment while working to preserve its traditional urban design and diversity.  Containing 20 different neighborhoods with 40,000 residents, the Near Eastside is located just outside the heart of downtown Indianapolis.

Challenge:  The John H. Boner Community Center was required to provide the most recent community profile information when it applied for funding to support neighborhood projects.  The 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee is a large funder and supporter of the Legacy Project, which supports the development of the Near Eastside.  In order to continue receiving grants, the staff was required to report the realities of the community to their partners.  The John H. Boner Community Center used SAVI data to accurately provide the neighborhood data in the following areas:  income levels, education levels, graduation rates, current school data, academic enrollment and ethnicity data.

Result:  SAVI proved to be a comprehensive and reliable source for the John H. Boner Community Center as the Center's staff members researched and gathered the necessary information in an effective manner.  They were able to visualize and analyze the data, which allowed them to make more effective decisions, policies, programs and actions.  SAVI was able to provide the John H. Boner Community Center with a comprehensive profile of the Near Eastside that mapped and displayed each statistic requested by the Super Bowl Host Committee.
